This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Warzone, Call of Duty’s new battle royale mode, is out now and it really switches up the game. On top of featuring 150 players per match, a new feature called the Gulag gives you a chance to get back into the action after dying. If you’re new to the game, here’s everything you need to know about the Call of Duty Warzone Gulag, including what it is and how you win.

Call of Duty Warzone Gulag Explained

The Gulag is a small location away from the Warzone map that you’ll go to when you die for the first time in a game, provided there’s someone to face and it’s not in the very late stages of a match.

After a short waiting time, where someone will probably try to punch you over and over again (get rid of it Infinity Ward!), you will then face off 1v1 with a random weapon (usually a shotgun or pistol of some kind) against another player who has recently died.

The Warzone Gulag loser is out of the game completely and the winner respawns above the map without any of their loadout, as if they’re starting the game again. They can then parachute down to meet any teammates who are still alive and kicking.

Gulag Tips to Win

If you’re dying in Warzone and are struggling to get the win that allows you to get back into the action, we’ve got some tips for you.

First of all, if you’ve died at the same time as your friend, you might be at a huge advantage. If your 1v1 starts before theirs, they can watch from the gallery up top, telling you where your opponent is, giving you a huge advantage. If you’re in this situation, take full advantage of it.

If you’re completely on your own, my main tip is just to not rush. Take it slow and give yourself a chance to work out where your opponent is.

They can’t go far, with left or right being the only real options in the Warzone Gulag, so find out where they are, taking advantage of the cover, and try to take them out that way.

Don’t just hide and camp, because you’ll likely be caught out, but consider your approach before diving into the battle if you want to survive the Warzone Gulag.
