Well, if you like Fairy Tail, you’ll like these anime, too! Here’s 7 anime like Fairy Tail if you’re looking for something similar. Oh, and if you’re looking for just anime in general, here’s the best anime you could be watching in 2018, too!

Rave Master
Rave Master, also known as Groove Master Rave, is the most obvious anime for fans of Fairy Tail to watch. This is due in no small part to the fact that it’s basically Fairy Tail’s predecessor, both series being created by Hiro Mashima. Right off the bat you’ll notice a ton of similarities, with similar art styles, main characters, and both even have a mascot character, Happy in Fairy Tail and Pluu in Rave Master.
There are definitely parallels between the two series’ characters and story. Haru and Ellie are the main characters of Rave Master, and their relationship matches that of Natsu and Lucy. Both stories heavily involve magic, with the hero and other characters having their own specific powers. Just like Fairy Tale, Rave Master mixes elements of action, comedy, romance, and more into a Shounen anime.
Undoubtedly, if you love Fairy Tail you’re also going to love Rave Master.

One Piece
Besides Rave Master, One Piece is probably the anime that is most similar to Fairy Tail. We had to include it in this list of anime like Fairy Tail, of course!
First and foremost, this comes in the way of the two series’ heroes. Luffy is a lot like Natsu, carefree and kind of slow-witted, but courageous and loyal to the end. Both characters have an almost unending appetite for food, and they both hold a very specific power unique to themselves. For Natsu, this is his Fire Dragon Slayer Magic that lets him use his power to boost his attacks, while Luffy uses the power of the Gum-Gum Fruit to stretch his body in any way he wants.
Both of these characters are incredibly similar in not only personality, but how they continuously find a way to use new moves and powers to beat increasingly powerful enemies.
Outside of just the main characters, however, One Piece sports the same over-the-top jokey tone that Fairy Tail has. Luffy’s Straw Hat Pirates are as colorful a crew as everyone from the Fairy Tail Guild, and the Shounen style of One Piece is visually quite similar as well. The good news is that if you jump into One Piece and love it, which you probably will if you like Fairy Tail, there’re over 700 episodes to keep you going. It’s one of the most popular anime series of all time for good reason.

The Seven Deadly Sins
The Seven Deadly Sins has a lot in common with your typical Shounen anime, especially something like One Piece, Fairy Tail, or Dragon Ball Z. The show takes place in Brittania, where The Seven Deadly Sins were the strongest Holy Knights serving the Kingdom of Lionnes, and their power became renowned far and wide. After supposedly hatching a plot to overthrow the kingdom and getting defeated by the Holy Knights, the Sins disband and leave the service of Lionnes.
The main character of the show, Meliodas, is the leader of the Sins and he’s a happy-go-lucky character with a darker side lurking beneath.
The Sins function as the main cast of the show, and throughout it, you’re periodically introduced to each one. They’re a quirky cast of characters who’s personalities really play off each other. Elizabeth Liones is the one who ends up reuniting them, and her relationship with Meliodus is similar to that of Natsu and Lucy.
There’s even a kind of mascot character, but instead of a talking cat it’s a talking pig named Hawk. Fairy Tail fans are sure to love the action featured in The Seven Deadly Sins, as it’s incredibly over-the-top, to the point of almost being like Dragon Ball Z. Each character has their own specific special moves that they use in battle like Meliodas’ “Full Counter,” which lets him reflect the attack of anyone else. A complex and surprisingly emotional plot, great animation, and fun characters are just a few of the other reasons fans of Fairy Tail should check this one out.

My Hero Academia
There might seem to be a recurring theme with these anime, and for good reason, as My Hero Academia is another anime with a cast of characters who each have their own special ability. The show takes place on a world similar to Earth, where people who have superpowers known as “Quirks” are the norm.
Izuku Midoriya, however, does not have superpowers and is bullied because of it. That all changes though, when the superhero All Might bestows his own superpower “One For All” upon Midoriya.
My Hero Academia and Fairy Tail, of course, have very different settings with one taking place in a modern type of setting and the other in a fantasy world. Despite this, both shows have a strong cast of characters and while they each have serious moments, they’re generally feel-good shows. The action in My Hero Academia is certainly going to be a strong point for fans, with each character sporting their own superpower.
This makes it quite similar to Fairy Tail and its character’s special magic. If you love Fairy Tail but need a break from all that fantasy, definitely give My Hero Academia a try.

Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic
Immediately, you’ll notice a ton of similarities between Magi and Fairy Tail in terms of setting and tone. Both anime take place in a fantasy world filled with the power of magic, and both tell a story focused on the themes of comradeship and loyalty.
The series takes place in an alternate recreation of the Old World, and follows Aladdin along with his friend Ugo, the Djinn contained in his flute. Aladdin meets Alibaba, and together they conquer the magical dungeon of Amon, and things only take off from there.
Once again the main character of Magi is quite similar to Natsu, as Aladdin is a strong-willed character that gets easily fired up and also serves as a bit of comic relief. Both shows are about a cast of characters going on an adventure, and learning about themselves and each other along the way. Magi also has some spectacularly animated battles that are entirely centered around the use of magic.
In fact, magic plays into the series in almost every way, and because of that aspect, it might just be the closest thing to Fairy Tail here.

Soul Eater
Soul Eater is definitely a bit crazier than Fairy Tail, but there’s still quite a bit of similarity. The show takes place at Death Weapon Meister Academy, where teams of a Weapon Meister and at least one weapon that can transform into a humanoid work to collect the souls of evil humans.
The goal is to make that humanoid weapon a “Death Scythe,” fit for use by the academy’s headmaster Shinigami, who’s the personification of death.
The Meister Academy certainly works similarly to the Fairy Tail guild, and the partnership between Maka and her scythe Soul Eater is reminiscent of Natsu and Lucy. The ensemble cast of Soul Eater is incredibly strange and quirky, and the show uses that to comedic effect, similarly to how Fairy Tail does. Maka and Soul Eater are always looking forward to a good fight, and the humanoid-weapon aspect makes for some interesting action in the series. The crazy concept works well for this show, and there’s definitely a lot to love for fans of Shounen anime.

Shaman King
Shaman King is an older Shounen anime compared to the others, but its interesting premise makes it stand apart from the others. The show focuses on Yoh Asakura, a shaman or medium between the worlds of the living and the dead. Yoh wants to become the Shaman King, the medium who is able to contact the Great Spirit, and every 500 years a battle is held between competing shamans to claim the title.
Yoh embarks on a journey to meet other shamans and do battle, in which he uses a combination of weapons, onmyoji magic, and summoning spirits. Unlike Natsu, however, Yoh is a bit of a slacker and it can be a struggle to get him to do things, which is why his fiancee prescribed him a rigorous training regimen.
Yoh meets many friends and allies along the way, most of which are other shaman he ends up eating and joining forces with. The cast has some wildly varying personalities, which makes their interactions all the more interesting as they become friends.
There’s plenty of action to be had in Shaman King, and the show’s shamanism theme really helps give it a unique feel and aesthetic. It’s a bit different from anything else out there, while still being similar to other Shounen anime. The special powers and interesting cast are sure to appeal to fans of Fairy Tail, but its story and themes might be a refreshing change of pace.
