Transfer Data – PS4 Pro
With the release of the PS4 Pro tomorrow, many will be eagerly anticipating jumping into their favorite experiences in glorious 4K resolution. While the system will work pretty much exactly how your current console does, it’s worth noting that you’ll need to transfer all of the data from your existing PS4 onto your PS4 Pro. Fortunately, there’s an incredibly easy way to do exactly that.
All you’ll need to do it is one LAN (Ethernet) cable that you’ll need to source from elsewhere as it doesn’t come included in the box.
First thing’s first, make sure both of your PS4 systems are running system software 4.0 or higher. If not, update to the most recent software to ensure that the data transfer option is available.
Next, connect your new PS4 Pro to your Wi-Fi network and sign into PSN with your account. You don’t need your standard PS4 to be connected to your TV, it just needs a power source to complete the transfer process.
When you’ve signed into your PSN account on your Pro, it should automatically detect that you’re signing into a new console with your PSN ID. At this point, it should ask if you want to start transferring your data from an old PS4 to your Pro. Confirm that you do and then press and hold the Power button on your old console until you hear a beep. This indicates that your old PS4 is preparing the data for transfer.
Plug in the LAN cable to both of your PS4s through the LAN ports on the back of each system. If for whatever reason you can’t do this, you can also connect each system to your router with two different cables. It should be easier, however, to just connect them directly.
With the systems plugged in, your PS4 Pro should bring up a list of everything you can transfer over. Here, you can pick and choose what data you bring across and leave behind. If you want to move everything across, simply ensure everything is checked here. At this point, the Pro will inform you how much space will be left on the hard drive once the transfer is completed, as well as an estimated time to complete.
Before the transfer process is finally confirmed, you’ll be asked if you want to activate your new console as your primary PS4 system. This is important as it allows you to automatically download updates, update save game data to the Cloud storage, and share any content your purchase with other users on the same system.
Once you’ve done this let the systems do what they’re best at and in no time at all your Pro should be all set for you to continue your adventures.
It’s worth noting here that some data will not make it across in the process. This, however, is limited to just password data for your accounts, profile data of accounts that haven’t signed into PSN on your PS4, and unsynced trophy data.
That’s all you need to know about the data transfer from the PS4 to the PS4 Pro. For more tips, tricks, and guides, be sure to check back with Twinfinite.
