Need for Speed Heat – New Xbox One Games November 2019
The Need for Speed series has been very spotty over the last few years. Once one of the stalwarts of the arcade racing genre, the series has had a few clunkers since its soft reboot of sorts back in 2015. Making matters more troubling, the arcade racing genre has seem some fantastic entries recently with Onrush and Forza Horizon 4.
Need for Speed Heat is going to attempt to get the series back on track by going to ol’ faithful: an aesthetic inspired by Miami. You know, the city where the “heat” is on and has those hundred-thousand dollar cars, everyone’s got ’em.
Ghost Games is still handling this one, so we’ll see how they switch things up if at all. We know that this will be an open world racing game and will feature a plot that involves a rivalry with the local police.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order – New Xbox One Games November 2019
Arguably one of the most anticipated new releases of the year, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order looks to reestablish the Star Wars video game franchise as one that is worthy of reverence.
While Battlefront 2 has got back on track since release, the initial negative reception to it combined with high-profile cancellation has caused some to worry about Star Wars video games.
Fortunately, developers Respawn is on the case here with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. You can make the argument that they are EA’s most talented and respected team right now following their stellar work on both Titanfall 2 and Apex Legends.
So far, we’ve really liked what we’ve got to see of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Our senior editor Hayes Madsen checked it out recently and had this to say about the game’s combat:
“Jedi Fallen Order takes some serious inspiration from games like Dark Souls or Sekiro, but adds an interesting Star Wars spin on things.”
Continuing: “Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to beat the Ninth Sister in the time I was given, but it was an intense battle while it lasted. Obviously, this is only one boss battle out of the entire game, so it’s impossible to make any firm judgment on the quality of the game’s boss battles.
Still, what I can say is that this one battle felt more like an actual lightsaber duel than almost anything I’ve played in Star Wars games before, and boy have I played a lot of Star Wars games over the years.”
Civilization VI – New Xbox One Games November 2019
Civilization VI is one of the best games of this generation especially when you bundle in its two expansion packs: Rise and Fall & Gathering Storm.
I was enamored with vanilla Civ VI even back when it first released years ago, but the Gathering Storm expansion really took it to another level, fixing the one major problem I had with the original game: the diplomacy.
Strategy games like Civ VI that normally have lived on PC have become more common on consoles over the last few years. Anyone who is a fan of strategy games and somehow have skipped the PC version and have been waiting for Civ VI show up on Xbox One, well, your day has come on Nov. 22. Get in there.
