Katamari Damacy REROLL (Dec. 7)

In all honesty, December 2018 is going to be a rather quiet month for Switch owners. There are still quite a few game releases to look forward to, of course, but very few that we’d deem actually noteworthy. Still, here are three of the best Switch games you should have on your radar in December 2018.

Starting us off is Katamari Damacy REROLL. The game was originally released for the PS2 back in 2004, and it’s garnered quite the passionate cult following since then.

The game’s premise is a curious one; after having a few too many drinks, the King of All Cosmos accidentally wipes out all the stars and celestial bodies in space. You are then charged with using a magical ball called a Katamari to go roll up all the junk in the world, and bring it back to the king so he can recreate what he destroyed. Yup.

Katamari Damacy REROLL is a remake of the PS2 classic title with redone graphics and levels, and it looks a lot cleaner overall. The gameplay is simple, but enjoyable. It’s a cute, laidback game that Switch owners should keep in mind this month.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Dec. 7)

What better way to end 2018 than by releasing the one game that everyone’s been clamoring for since the Switch’s release? Announced earlier this year, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will finally make its way to the console on Dec. 7.

That “ultimate” branding isn’t just for show either. This latest entry in the series will feature the largest character roster we’ve seen yet, as it brings back every single character we’ve ever seen in every Smash game ever. This is both good and bad news for fans. On one hand, you can’t exactly complain about a lack of variety. But on the other, some characters might play too similarly to one another. We’re looking at you, Fire Emblem characters.

Not only that, Smash Ultimate is also making a few new additions to the roster, such as the squid kids from Splatoon, and Ridley from Metroid, who’s been a requested addition for quite some time.

This is, without a doubt, going to be the biggest game release of December 2018, and is one of the best Switch games you definitely need to keep an eye out for. Unless you’re not a fighting game fan. That would suck. In which case, read on.

GRIS (Dec. 13)

Sure, Smash is super exciting and everything, but let’s not forget about that gorgeous game Devolver Digital is gonna be publishing this month as well.

GRIS is a beautiful 2D platformer developed by Nomada Studio. The game stunned us with its debut trailer, as we got to see its seriously pretty graphical style, and sample its emotionally provocative soundtrack as well.

GRIS tells the story of a girl “lost in her own world” after dealing with a “painful experience in her life.” As players progress through the game, they’ll gain new abilities to help them better traverse the world and uncover more of the story. It all sounds really promising so far, and hey, give us hand-drawn art styles and catchy soundtracks any day and we’re in.

Those are our picks for the best Switch games to keep a look out for in December 2018. Do you feel like we missed out on anything? Feel free to let us know in the comments down below.
