Celeste, Best Moments in Gaming of 2018

A new year means a whole new batch of free games to look forward to. In January 2019, Xbox Games with Gold subscribers will get a few quality titles to choose from. Celeste is certainly the biggest one to look out for. Released at the beginning of 2018, Celeste won our hearts with its hellish precision platforming gameplay.

I’m kidding, it was the way the game tackled everyday problems like depression, anxiety, and panic attacks. The platforming gameplay was wonderful, too.

Lara Croft: Guardian of Light will also be made available in January 2019, along with Far Cry 2. Before the Far Cry series broke into the mainstream market, Far Cry 2 was a difficult pill to swallow.

It was gritty, placing you in control of a character suffering from malaria, and you’d have to make sure you were monitoring your wellbeing at all times. There were other realistic mechanics such as weapon degradation and having to perform first aid when your character was severely injured.

Here are all the free games Gold subscribers can get in January 2019:

  • Celeste
  • WRC 6
  • Lara Croft: Guardian of Light
  • Far Cry 2

PS Plus

Steep Review

Sony’s also got a decent offering of free games coming up in January 2019. The headlining titles for this month are Steep and Portal Knights. It’s still the winter season, which means it’s still the perfect time to get into a game like Steep.

The game itself is quite breathtaking, and the snow-capped mountains are so gorgeous and just so inviting for players to snowboard over them and pull off all sorts of cool stunts and tricks.

Portal Knights is another great PS4 game to pick up, especially for players who might be looking for a fun multiplayer action RPG to get into. You can team up with up to three other players to explore a vast open world, or just roam the lands alone if that’s more your thing.

Other offerings include Zone of the Enders HD Collection, which we honestly wouldn’t recommend to new players because of the poor controls, and Amplitude, which is actually quite a decent rhythm game to get into.

Here are all the free games PS Plus subscribers can get in January 2019:

  • Steep
  • Portal Knights
  • Zone of the Enders HD Collection
  • Amplitude
  • Fallen Legion: Flames of Rebellion
  • Super Mutant Alien Assault

If you’re an Amazon or Twitch Prime subscriber, it’s all about Devolver Digital in January 2019. The indie publisher is offering up seven of their best games for free, which is a great deal for anyone currently subscribed to the service.

One of the more recent offerings includes The Messenger, which we wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who’s a fan of the old-school Ninja Gaiden games. In addition to that, The Swords of Ditto is also available for download, as are some of the company’s older games like Hotline Miami and its sequel.
