Games With Gold

Xbox Games With Gold, Overcooked

For October 2018, Xbox Live subscribers will be getting four free games via Microsoft’s Games With Gold program. Overcooked is probably the hottest must-have title here, as it’s a four-player co-operative game that tasks you with cooking up dishes and serving them on time. Communication is absolutely key in Overcooked, and this can lead to hilarious situations and instances of miscommunication between you and your friends.

Hitman: Blood Money is also up for grabs this month, and it’s a great way to get yourself hyped up for Hitman 2 releasing later in the year. Aside from that, Victor Vran and Stuntman: Ignition are also available for download as part of the program.

PS Plus

Friday the 13th The Game

To get into the spooky Halloween mood, PS Plus users will be able to snag Friday the 13th for free this month. Honestly, it’s not a very good game at this point as it’s horribly unbalanced, especially when you compare it to Dead by Daylight. If you picked up Dead by Daylight as one of the PS Plus free games from a couple months ago, consider playing that instead. Still, if you’re a big fan of the movies, you might find some silly fun out of it.

Laser League is also available as a free game for October 2018, where you can compete with other players to see who has better reflexes. In addition to that, Sony is also offering Rocketbirds 2 for those who still have the Vita lying around.

  • Master Reboot
  • The Bridge
  • Rocketbirds 2: Evolution

Twitch Prime

While the PS Plus and Gold offerings for this month aren’t exactly very attractive, Twitch Prime is upping their game with the Halloween spooks. First up, Darksiders: Warmastered Edition is available for download, which should be good for players who want to check out Darksiders 3 this year, but haven’t gotten into the series yet.

Prime subscribers will also be able to play games like Sanitarium, SOMA, and System Shock: Enhanced Edition. We definitely recommend picking up SOMA, as it’s easily one of the best psychological horror games we’ve played in recent years. If you were disappointed by the Prey reboot, System Shock: Enhanced Edition is another great one to pick up. All in all, it’s a pretty nice month for Prime subscribers.

Steam

free games

As always, Steam is full of free or free-to-play games that can sometimes be worth checking out. For now, we’ve picked out a few games that look like they might be worth a look.

First off, we have Dark Places, which is a first-person shooter game where you’re tasked with exploring a world full of nightmarish monsters. The player character is also forced to face their own psychological delusions, which makes this the perfect game to play this Halloween.

We’ve also got a few decent-looking RPGs and dungeon crawlers on Steam this month. Chronicles of Lurra is a 2D sprite-based RPG where the main character, Trent, is torn away from his home through “time and space” to explore the world of Lurra. Similarly, Braveland Heroes is a charming strategy RPG with a lovely art style that also features online play.

Lastly, Idle Dungeons is a dungeon-crawler with Minecraft-like graphics, in which you trawl through dungeons while defeating skeletons and bosses. There are also gear upgrade systems, along with tons of loot to pick up.
