Microsoft is stepping up its game with its free games offerings for August 2019. In preparation for Gears 5 releasing later this year, Gold subscribers can check out Gears of War 4 to see what the latest entry in the series has to offer, and get caught up with the story as well. It certainly helps that Gears 4 continues to be an extremely fun co-op shooter to get into.

Forza Motorsport 6 is also up for grabs for all you racing fans out there, and it still holds up pretty well as one of the best-looking racing games on the market.

In addition to that, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is also on the list this month. Just in case you still need your Metroidvania fix, and have already played Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night to death.

You can check out the full list of free games available for Gold subscribers in August 2019 down below:

  • Gears of War 4
  • Forza Motorsport 6
  • Torchlight
  • Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

PS Plus

free games

On the other hand, Sony’s free games lineup has looked abysmal for a few months now, and that trend is continuing in August 2019. Parsing down the lineup and removing PS3 and Vita games is definitely making the list look a little sad.

Anyway, racing fans should have some fun with the WipEout Omega Collection. The game comes with over 20 tracks, and you can play with up to seven other players in crazy, high-octane races.

The other free game on offer is Sniper Elite 4, which challenges players to take down their enemies by making smart use of environmental objects and, of course, your sniper rifle. The game feature competitive and co-op aspects as well, which should keep you busy for a bit.

Twitch Prime

If you’re a Prime subscriber, you’ll also get some nice goodies this month. The big headlining title is definitely Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap, which is an absolutely beautiful hand-drawn platformer game with gorgeous music and action to go along with it.

The game features a few animal transformations for your character, and you’ll need to figure out which ones to use in specific situations if you want to progress.

As always, subscribing to Prime also gets you a discounted Switch Online subscription, along with other goodies for games like Warframe and PUBG.

Steam

free games

As always, Steam comes packed with a ton of free-to-play games, in case you’re looking for something new to check out, but don’t want to break the bank.

Avast Ye is a pirate-themed action adventure game, where you play as Captain Kate who’s out on islands searching for buried treasure. Along the way, you’ll also have to work with your crew to fend off any incoming enemies. The game’s art style looks cute enough, and its vibrancy definitely caught our attention.

Galaxy in Turmoil looks insanely good and ambitious for a free-to-play game. It’s set in space, as you might expect, and features 32v32 battles in space and on the ground. If the multiplayer aspects don’t appeal to you, there’s a story mode to get into as well.
