April 2019 is a bit of a slow month for new game releases, and the same can be said for the Games with Gold on offer as well.

The two headlining titles here are The Technomancer and Outcast – Second Contact. The Technomancer is a third-person action RPG that appeared to have potential, but sadly, it’s bogged down by uninspiring gameplay.

On the other hand, Outcast could be interesting for players looking for a new open world action-adventure game to dive into. The environments and enemies are quite varied, and the game is bolstered by its lovely cartoonish art style.

Star Wars Battlefront II (not to be confused with the recent EA release) and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 are also up for grabs this month, for players who want to take a trip down memory lane.

PS Plus, The Surge

Likewise, Sony doesn’t have very enticing offerings for PS Plus subscribers either.

The two big titles for this month are Conan Exiles and The Surge. The former could be appealing if you’re looking to dive into an open world survival game.

Meanwhile, The Surge is a sci-fi Souls-like RPG from Deck13 Interactive. Another game that had potential when it was first announced, The Surge’s level and enemy designs felt uninspiring. If you’re looking for a good character action game with all the From-isms you can get into, Sekiro’s probably going to be more your speed.

Twitch Prime

Free Games in April 2019

If you’re a Twitch or Amazon Prime member, you’ve got a good handful of free goodies to look forward to as well.

This month, Sam Barlow’s Her Story will be made available for free, if you haven’t checked it out already. It’s a bit of an unconventional experience, as you’re mainly just watching a series of live-action video clips while piecing a story together, but it’s certainly worth a look for a one-time experience.

Joggernauts is also up for grabs if you’re in the mood for a new co-operative platformer to play. As is InnerSpace, a flying exploration game with a vibrant color palette.

In addition to all of that, you can also get a free Nintendo Switch Online subscription, which is always nice.

Steam

And as always, Steam is completely full of free-to-play games releasing every month. Most are complete rubbish, but every now and then, you might find a gem that’s actually worth checking out.

Prologue for a Vacant Kingdom looks like a promising pixel art RPG with a somewhat interesting story. It’s being touted as a bullet hell RPG, where you’ll have to explore a kingdom and solve the mystery of everyone disappearing into thin air.

Star Chef: Cooking & Restaurant Game is also releasing in April, and yes, we know it sounds really generic, but who can resist the draw of a good ol’ cooking management game? You’ll get to build your own restaurant, customize your menu, and serve food to people all in the name of making more money. Perfect.
