6 DLC Characters That Should Make the Cut in Mario Golf: Super Rush

Mario Golf: Super Rush has arrived on the Nintendo Switch, bringing six courses and 17 characters (including your Mii) to keep you entertained across its Speed, Standard, and Battle Golf modes. Of course, while 17 characters did make the cut, there are some classics from both inside and out of the Mushroom Kingdom’s confines that deserve some relaxation time on the course.

Below, you’ll find our picks for six characters that we’d love to see become Mario Golf: Super Rush DLC. So without further ado, let’s dive in.

Shy Guy

If there’s any member of the Mushroom Kingdom that needs to get more involved in these kinds of social excursions, it’s our little masked buddy, Shy Guy.

The guy is literally so shy it’s in his name… in fact, it’s all of his name! Donning a mask to hide his face, the community has long pondered what lies beneath. But we’re digressing a bit here (though what a mystery it is!).

Shy Guy’s always been the technical player in the Mario’s sporting outings, and you just know that he’s a master of spin and control on the golf course, even if his drive distance may be lacking.

Still, given Shy Guys has long been a part of the Mario sports spin-offs, his absence from Mario Golf: Speed Rush’s roster is a disappointing one. He could even bring a Sherbet Land-inspired course with him as part of his DLC.

C’mon Nintendo, do the right thing and add our boy in. It’s these kinds of things he needs to be invited to if we have any hope of coaxing him out of his shell!

Wiggler

Mario Golf: Super Rush DLC Characters We’d Love to See

Honestly, we don’t think any character has been done any more dirty in the history of Mario Golf than Wiggler right here. Despite having two perfectly good arms for yeeting that golf ball into the stratosphere, our six-legged boy was relegated to merely showing up on Hole 1 of the Wiggler Park course in Mario Golf: World Tour.

In Speed Rush, it’s time our beloved wriggly Wiggler got his time in the spotlight of the roster. I mean, don’t act like you don’t want to take Wiggler all the way to golfing glory, watching his little face light up on the podium. Our little guy!

Speed Shot? Wiggler’s going into full rage mode and plowing through anything his cherry-red body touches. Power Shot’s also no problem. I mean, imagine how much power and momentum he can muster in that long body of his.

It’s time.

Make Wiggler Great Again.

So far, we know that when he’s not busy saving Hyrule and hacking away at Ganon with the Master Sword, Link enjoys karting with his Mushroom Kingdom mates. But if you ask us, he also looks like the kinda guy who’d love a bit of golf.

Not only is his keen eye and impeccable accuracy with his bow a transferable skill to the golf course, but he also looks like he’d enjoy taking out his frustrations on every tee along the way.

To help him putt the ball before his opponents in Speed Golf, you can bet your bottom dollar he’s calling on Epona to gallop across the fairways, or even a Goron to roll on top of. His Special Shot is obvious enough. When you’ve got the combined might of Power, Wisdom and Courage in the Triforce at your disposal, you’re gonna use it.

Perhaps we could even get a special Hyrule-themed course to help pad out the initial six courses that were included in the base game. Plus, Shadow Link and Breath of the Wild Link skins anyone? You know we want all of the Link skins that Nintendo can conjure up!

Samus

Mario Golf: Super Rush DLC Characters We’d Love to See

Samus has had a real resurgence in popularity recently, with Metroid games topping the Wii U (yes you read that right) Virtual Console charts in the past couple weeks.

So what’s caused this resurgence in the bounty hunter’s popularity? Why E3 of course, and the reveal of Metroid Dread, the first 2D Metroid title in almost 19 years.

Being able to roll up into her Morph Ball, Samus could speed her way to the ball in Speed Golf, dropping bombs on the way to hinder her opponents. As for her Special Shot? Well, you know she’s going to use that hefty arm cannon to blast the golf ball for hundreds if not thousands of yards… if it’s not completely eviscerated, anyway.

For real, though, with Metroid — and subsequently Samus — having such a large fanbase and being the hot topic right now, it makes sense bring Samus into the cameo characters fold for Mario Golf: Super Rush, and any other Mushroom Kingdom outings that come up in the future.

Petey Piranha

I mean, outside of watching a giant piranha plant striking a golf ball and then staggering/ sprinting after it like the primest nightmare fuel you’ve ever seen in Speed Golf, there’s ample reason for Petey Piranha to get some time in the spotlight.

For a start, despite his significance in the rise of the titular plumber, Petey doesn’t really get to show up all that much anymore. But he’d also help flesh out the roster with another ‘Power’ or ‘Spin’ heavy character.

His Speed Rush special move? Why he’s gonna literally be nipping at the heels of the competition as he speeds past.

Honestly, if Petey doesn’t get the recognition he deserves, we riot.

Gold Waluigi

Mario Golf: Super Rush DLC Characters We’d Love to See

“But Chris, we’ve already got Waluigi in Mario Golf: Super Rush! Why do we need another Waluigi?”

I mean first off, how dare you. Secondly, I needn’t explain this but it’s our main man Waluigi, the Big Inverted L, our Lord and Savior. If there’s any citizen of the Mushroom Kingdom who deserves to be plated in the 24 finest Karats that even Princess Peach has ever seen.

For real, though, this could probably just be an alternative skin, but then we’ve had Gold Mario appear in games such as Mario Kart as an unlockable character before, so why not Waluigi?!

Yep, that’s an air-tight argument right there.
