2020 is upon us and even though Sony is releasing a brand-new console later this year, there are still some huge PS4 games on the horizon to be on the lookout for.
Here are seven big PS4 exclusives coming in 2020 that are worth getting hyped about.
Nioh 2
Games that take place in Feudal Japan seem to be all of the rage right now thanks to the upcoming release of Team Ninja’s Nioh 2, Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima, and the release of FromSoft’s Sekiro back in 2019.
Who can blame them? The period is interesting and makes for some of the most gorgeous backdrops in a video game.
Nioh 2 plans to bring back that savage and deadly combat that made its predecessor so loved and critically acclaimed. If the fighting this time around keeps that silky smooth feeling and retains the variety in combat, then there’s no doubt that this prequel will be anything less than good.
Nioh 2 is scheduled to launch for the PS4 on March 13, 2020.
Final Fantasy VII Remake
Square Enix is finally remaking the classic JRPG that is beloved by many fans of Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy VII remake will be split into episodic parts with each chapter taking place in different segments of the classic PS1 title but it’s adding some changes to make it more accessible to the modern audience.
Players will be able to change the action-focused combat to a turn-based style to make it play out more like the original game and everything seems to just be way more streamlined.
Square Enix has only released gameplay footage of the first area in the game for the most part but from what’s been shown, this game is shaping up to be one of the biggest hits of 2020 as well one of the best remakes of all time.
We got hands-on time with the game at E3 last year and walked away impressed by what we were able to play and gathered lots of interesting details about how the new combat system works.
Predator: Hunting Grounds
Predator: Hunting Grounds comes from Illfonic, the same team that worked on that Friday the 13th game and the team is bringing that asymmetrical gameplay back but with the Predators license this time around.
One team will be able to control the human military men while the other will take the role of the deadly Predators who are trying to, of course, hunt down the humans one by one.
When you play as the humans, you’ll have goals to accomplish before you get your head… well, you can guess what happens next if a Predator gets their hands on you.
Predator: Hunting Ground launches as a PS4 exclusive on April 24, 2020.
Iron Man VR
If Marvel’s Spider-Man in 2017 wasn’t enough superhero goodness for you, then get yourself ready for yet another exclusive Marvel game to come to the PS4, but this time, in virtual reality.
Iron Man VR is exclusive to Sony’s headset and will tell an original story from the perspective of the one and only, Tony Stark.
By using the PS move controllers, you’ll be able to zip around and shoot enemies in mid-air while trying not to squeal from sheer excitement and joy.
This one is planned to release on Feb. 28 for PSVR.
The Last of Us Part II
If you’ve played even a little bit of The Last of Us, then you already know that Ellie and Joel’s lives have been tough (and that’s putting things lightly).
The ending of the first game left the story open for future installments and Naughty Dog decided that they would advance in the narrative of these characters with a proper sequel.
Players will take control of Ellie this time around and she’s much older, more experienced, and it seems that she’s fallen in love with another young woman.
The gameplay and story beats look as intense and gritty as ever so this sequel will surely make a few of us shed a tear or two… or maybe 10.
The Last of Us Part II releases on May 29, 2020.
Persona 5 Royal
The Phantom Thieves from Persona 5 have stolen our hearts already back with the release of the massive JRPG in 2017, but they’re all coming back this year with the royal edition of the game.
Persona 5 Royal introduces new characters, bosses, locations, and much much more content to bring new and returning players into the streets of Tokyo.
Persona 5 Royale is coming to a PS4 near you on March 31, 2020.
Ghost of Tsushima
Ghost of Tsushima has been in development quite sometime now for the PS4 as Sucker Punch formally announced it back in 2017 at Paris Games Week. The wait has been long but the title is finally coming sometime in the summer of 2020 and it’s going to let everyone live out their samurai dreams.
Ghost of Tsushima will be an open-ended action-adventure title that lets players explore Feudal Japan anyway that they want to with there being no waypoint to guide players in a specific direction.
The game is absolutely stunning in all of the trailers that have been released thus far and we cannot wait to get our hands on it.
