Fallout 4: How to Pick Locks

This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

So, you want to be a thief? Or perhaps you’re just a scavenger in the truest sense of the word? Well, if you’re having trouble picking locks in Fallout 4, this guide is for you.

When you attempt to pick a lock, you’ll be met with a screen that has a screwdriver and a bobby pin messing with a keyhole. Since you don’t have a key, this is how you’re going to have to get through. By the way, the Locksmith perk will allow you to do this all very easily, so be sure to invest points there.

First, move the bobby pin slightly to the left or right. If the bobby pin starts wiggling immediately, go the other way. Once you know which general direction you should be going, the rest comes easily. Simply move the bobby pin more and more until you hit the sweet spot that won’t have it snapping. Be sure to only move the screwdriver slowly. You don’t want to go through all your bobby pins. The minute there’s any bit of resistance, let it go.

Now that you know the trick to working those locks, go out there and steal all the things!
