Can I Sleep Outside in Stardew Valley? Answered

Explaining why you can or cannot sleep outside in Stardew Valley.

Stardew Valley operates on a 24-hour day cycle; however, four of those hours are always spent sleeping. That gives you 20 hours to complete whichever tasks you set out to complete in a single cycle, from 6 AM to 2 AM. That means you need to rush back home to get rest. Wouldn’t it be better if you could sleep outside in Stardew Valley? Is that possible in the game?

Can I Sleep Outside in Stardew Valley? Answered

Unfortunately, you cannot sleep outside in Stardew Valley, at least not willingly.

When the clock strikes 12 AM, two hours before the end of a day cycle, your character will get tired. At this point drop everything you’re doing and find a bed. Once 2 AM rolls in, and you’re not in a bed, you’ll pass out in exhaustion whether you want to or not, regardless of where you are.

While you can get away with passing out outside in Stardew Valley, it isn’t recommended. Sleeping in a bed restores your energy and health to full, whereas passing out only restores both to half, along with losing a portion of your gold if you fainted outside the Farm or Cabin. It’s a huge penalty that isn’t worth dealing with.

It’s a bummer that you cannot sleep outside in Stardew Valley, but to be fair it would trivialize part of the game mechanics; a fair amount of importance is placed on time management. In the event that you lose items in Stardew Valley, it’s important to know where the Lost and Found is located. Or, if you’re looking for love, Sebastian is available.
