Far Cry 6: How to Upgrade Weapons

In this guide, we’ll run you through all there is to know about upgrading weapons in Far Cry 6.

Upgrading Weapons in Far Cry 6

To upgrade your weapons in Far Cry 6, you’ll need to go to a Workbench. These can be found in any of the Guerrilla camps you establish in each of the different regions of Yara, as well as the hideouts you can purchase from the Hideout Network building.

Next, select your weapon from either the ‘Primary Weapon’ or ‘Sidearm’ slots, and then highlight the weapon you want to upgrade and press X/A.

You can now add Ammo Mods and Muzzles and Optical attachments as long as you’ve got the required crafting materials, listed when hovering over each weapon upgrade. Resolver Weapons can be upgraded with mods to further enhance their own unique traits.

Highlighting a weapon attachment shows you the effect it’ll have on your weapon stats in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.

When you’ve found the Far Cry 6 weapon upgrade you want to purchase, simply press and hold X/A to confirm your choice. This will purchase the upgrade and automatically equip it to your weapon.

What Each Weapon Upgrade Does

Ammo Mods allow you to change the type of rounds the weapon fires, such as Armor Piercing, Soft-Target, Poison, Blast and Incendiary. Each one is effective against different types of enemies and in difference scenarios, so we highly recommend trying them out and seeing which work for you.

A quick tip, though: Armor Piercing Ammo is incredibly powerful against standard enemies and we’d recommend always having at least one weapon with this ammo type in one of your four slots. Blast ammo is another we’d recommend keeping on one weapon for punching through tanks and choppers.

Muzzle attachments are largely focused on silencing, improving accuracy or reducing recoil on your weapons, and this is down to personal preference and how you want each of your weapons to handle.

Finally, Optics allows you to put improved sights on your weapons, and having a weapon with a nice, long-range sight is helpful when combined with a suppressor muzzle to help you silently pick off enemies from a distance.

Can You Upgrade Every Weapon in Far Cry 6?

You can upgrade every weapon in Far Cry 6 that is not a special, ‘unique’ weapon. These are the weapons that are found in a separate section at the bottom of each weapon type’s screen and often have cool designs.

They’re also found dotted around the world in those wooden boxes with the crocodile on the top.
