How to Scan in New Pokemon Snap

Scanning is a crucial part of New Pokemon Snap. To scan, press X and it will scan the immediate area. If there is something of interest worth looking at, a greenish dot will appear over it, and then you can press and hold X on top of that marker to gain information about whatever it is you’re looking at.

The scan will also highlight the names of Pokemon that are in the area that you might not be able to see easily. Finally, it will also get the attention of some Pokemon, allowing for better photos if they are looking directly at the camera.

You always want to make sure Pokemon are looking at the camera and, ideally, are doing more exciting actions in order to ensure you’re getting the most possible stars. Make sure to scan to ensure that you have a good handle on what’s around you, and to give yourself time to think of a strategy.
