How Watch Dogs Legion’s Next-Gen Upgrades Work

Any player who buys Watch Dogs Legion on the Xbox One will be able to upgrade to the Xbox Series X/ S version for free.

Similarly, anyone who buys Watch Dogs Legion on the PS4 will be able to upgrade to the PS5 version for free.

This works a little differently depending on whether you downloaded the game digitally, or have a physical disc version of the game.

Getting the Free Digital Next-Gen Upgrade

To download the PS5 or Xbox Series X version of Watch Dogs Legion if you bought the digital version on PS4 or Xbox One, simply log into your next-gen console with the account you purchased the game on.

You should now find Watch Dogs Legion available to download in your ‘Games’ library. Simply select it and download it on your console. Load it up and you’ll be all ready to carry on your fight against the mass surveillance regime crippling London.

Getting the Free Physical Next-Gen Upgrade

It’s even easier if you’ve got a physical, disc copy of Watch Dogs Legion on PS4 or Xbox One.

When you’ve got your PS5 or Xbox Series X, simply put your PS4/ Xbox One disc into your console and let it install. You’ll need to have the disc in your console every time you want to launch the next-gen version of Watch Dogs Legion so keep that in mind.

It’s also worth pointing out that you won’t be able to get a free next-gen upgrade with your physical PS4 or Xbox One copy of the game if you get the PS5 Digital Edition or Xbox Series S, as these consoles do not have a disc drive.

Will Watch Dogs Legion Have Cross-Save?

Yes! Watch Dogs Legion will have cross-save compatibility on day one, meaning you’ll be able to pick up your save file from the current-gen versions of the game in the next-gen version on your shiny, new PS5 and Xbox Series X.

At least that’ll save you a few hours having to start all over again.

Does Watch Dogs Legion Have Cross-Play?

According to a Reddit AMA conducted by Legion’s Live Producer Lathieeshe Thillainathan, Watch Dogs Legion will not have cross-play at launch. That means PS4 and Xbox One players will not be able to play with one another in the game’s online mode.

He did go on to say, however, that cross-play is being planned as part of an update in Year 1. We’ll just have to wait for more details for the time being.
