This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Developed by Kinetic Games, Phasmophobia is the latest horror sensation that’s been making its way up the Steam charts this month. It’s a cooperative ghost hunting game that requires you to make use of several tools to identify the type of ghost you’re dealing with. Before you can start playing with friends, though, you’ll first need to get through the training level. Here’s how to clear the training tutorial in Phasmophobia.

Clearing the Training Tutorial in Phasmophobia

First off, if you want to completely bypass the training level and jump straight into the proper ghost hunting section, you can absolutely do that. Simply bring up the menu and choose the option to quit the session, and you’ll go right back to the lobby. You should now be able to select the Play option from the whiteboard and create or join a session.

It’s definitely recommended that you give the training level a solid attempt, though, as it gets you acquainted with some very basic mechanics.

At the start of the level, make sure to check the whiteboard in the van to see where the ghost room is. For us, the ghost was located in the living room, which means that’s where you’ll see most of the paranormal activity.

To start, bring the black video camera with you, along with the ghost journal and don’t forget the house key on the desk as well. Once inside your designated ghost room, place the video camera somewhere you can get a good view of the entire room, then place the ghost journal on a table in that same room as well.

Make sure the light on the camera is green, then head back to the van. Interact with the mouse on the desk to switch camera views, then check the footage for a ghost orb. Orbs will look like a small green dot flitting through the air, but if you don’t see it after a minute or so, you can rule out the ghost orb as a piece of evidence.

Head back into the ghost room, and this time bring the spirit box and the IR flashlight with you. At the same time, check the journal for any ghost writing. With the spirit box equipped, use it and talk into your mic to ask it a question. It’ll usually respond to “How old are you?” or “Where are you?” At the same time, use the IR flashlight and check the doors and light switches for any handprints.

By this point, you should have enough evidence to figure out what ghost you’re dealing with in Phasmophobia. Press J to bring up your personal journal, go to the last page, then fill in the evidence. At the bottom of the page, select the ghost type, then head back to the van and interact with the number pad to leave and end the level.
