If you’re looking to build some of the later boat buildings such as the Chicken Coop, you’ll need Ash Logs and/ or Ash Planks. The same is true for anyone looking to upgrade Atul’s house completely, as the photo frame he wants also requires Ash wood. In this guide, we’re going to talk you through how to get Ash Logs and Planks in Spiritfarer.
Getting Ash Logs in Spiritfarer
Ash Logs are obtained by cutting down an Ash Tree on islands. The problem comes in the fact that this type of wood seems far more rare than the Oak and Maple trees that are seemingly everywhere.
However, there are three Ash trees at Sunspring Square (151,-109) and five Ash trees at Ambertown Park (216,-72) which you can alternate between to quickly farm Ash Logs.
Once you’ve found an Ash Tree, walk over to it, wait for the game to highlight it and then press X on Xbox One, Square on PS4, or Y on Switch. When Stella and Daffodil are in position at each end of the saw, move your analog stick left and right until the tree has been cut down.
Each tree cut down will then provide you with a few Ash Logs. So that’s step one complete, at least.
Ash Logs can also be found in Crates floating about in the sea. Also when you eventually meet the turtles Olga, Masha and Irina, you’ll be able to plant a log on their back. When you meet them again after they return to the surface, the log will have grown into a tree, meaning you can further bolster your supply of this rare wood.
Making Ash Planks
Once you’ve got your Ash Logs, you can head over to the Sawmill building on your boat.
Drop down to the bottom level and interact with the Sawmill itself. Put your Ash Logs into the machine and ‘Finalize’ your decision. Now all you need to do is complete the Sawmill mini-game where you trace the dotted line running through each log, and you’ll get Ash Planks.
You’ll get anywhere from one to four Ash Planks per log (or 3-6 if you’ve got the Improved Tools Ability). The better you stick to the line in the mini-game, the more planks you’ll get per log.
That’s everything you need to know about getting Ash Logs and Ash Planks in Spiritfarer. You can check out more of our guides on the game below, or heading over here.
