Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning‘s combat system is surprisingly flush with mechanics to use, not least of which being the block and parry system. These mechanics won’t do you much good if you don’t know how to use them though, which is why we’re here to walk you through how to block and parry in Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning.
How to Block and Parry in Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning
To block and parry in Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning, all you need to do is press L2 on the PlayStation 4 or LT on the Xbox One.
This will raise whatever shield you have equipped and intercept incoming damage. Stronger shields intercept more damage from attacks, and holding down the block button will maintain your guard for as long as you keep it pressed.
To parry an incoming attack though, you’ll need to raise your guard right as an attack is about to hit you. As you might expect, attempting this move is high-risk high-reward: If you nail the timing, you’ll deflect the incoming attack, leaving your opponent open to massive damage via a counter strike.
Messing up the timing, meanwhile, can leave you suffering reduced damage if you block too early and full damage if you block too late, putting you in a far worse situation than you’d otherwise be in by just blocking.
Take your time to read your enemy’s movements, and assess which mechanics would serve you best in whatever situation you’re in. Before long, you should get a better feel for when and how to use both blocks and parries, and be able to maximize their effectiveness in battle.
Hopefully this cleared up how to block and parry in Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning. For more on the game, check out our guides on other hot topics like how to get a house and how to change destinies.
