Right now the standard reach to gyms in Pokemon GO is double the default distance. This extended distance will change back in the future. Remote Raid Passes take this ability to reach a gym from further away to the next level. But, we’ll get into that in just a bit.

How to Get Remote Raid Passes

First, you’re gonna need to add some of these new items to your item bag. There are a couple of ways that this can be done at this time. The first one is in a special Poke Coin box. With this box you get three Remote Raid Passes added to your inventory.

You can also get these items by purchasing them from the in-game Shop. Right now, you can purchase a single pass for 100 Poke Coins or a bundle of three for 250. The current prices will increase following the end of the social distancing changes to Pokemon GO.

What They Do

As the name implies, Remote Raid Passes let you participate in Pokemon GO raids when you’re not within the standard range of a gym. Any of these battles that show up on your nearby screen will be accessible with this new item.

First, tap on the lower right of the screen where it shows you the nearby Pokemon. Then, swipe right to left or tap on Raid at the top of the screen to view which raids are nearby. Tap on the icon of the Pokemon next to the gym location to view it and join in using your Remote Raid Pass.

Right now up to 20 players can join a raid remotely and there won’t be any difference in the power of their Pokemon. Once the social distancing changes in Pokemon GO are over, then the number of remote players per raid will be decreased and remote raider’s Pokemon will deal less damage.

Time needed: 2 minutes

Here’s a quick summary of how to get Remote Raid Passes & what they’re for:

  1. Purchase Remote Raid Passes from the Shop

There is currently a special box with three passes for one Poke Coin. The other prices are 100 for one pass and 250 for three.

  2. View nearby Raids

Tap on the nearby Pokemon in the lower right and swipe right to left or tap on Raid at the top of the screen.

  3. Join a Raid

Tap on a nearby raid that is out of range and join it to using the new pass.
