Animal Crossing New Horizons Feng Shui Guide

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

At first glance, Animal Crossing: New Horizons seems like a pretty simple and straightforward game that just has you collecting furniture and decorating your island and home as you see fit. However, there are a few hidden systems that the game never explains to you, and these could help increase your overall luck. Here’s everything you need to know about Feng Shui in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Feng Shui in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Based on Chinese geomancy in which it was believed that by positioning your items a certain way in your home, your home itself could harmonize with the individual, the Feng Shui system in Animal Crossing: New Horizons works in a similar way. By positioning your furniture properly in your home, you could increase your hidden luck stat in the game.

The positioning of your furniture isn’t the only thing that matters; you’ll also need to take note of the color of your furniture as well. Here are the basics:

  • Green furniture in the south increases overall luck.
  • Red furniture in the east increases item luck.
  • Yellow furniture in the west increases money luck.

In addition to that, you’ll also need to know the Feng Shui range. The furniture placements only count towards your Feng Shui score if they’re placed within two tiles of your walls. Any further than that and they won’t count. It’s also worth noting that hung furniture or clothing on the walls will count.

You’ll get bonus points for putting items on top of a table or any other sort of surface as well, so make full use of that.

Item Luck and Money Luck

In Animal Crossing New Horizons, your character has a hidden luck stat which determines the kinds of items you’ll find on your island and in the shop, as well as how much money you can get from exploring the island and receive from villagers.

By stacking red furniture in the east, your item luck goes up, and your chances of getting better items in the shops and as gifts from villagers should go up. Increasing your money luck should increase your chances of receiving more money from air balloons, or when villagers give you Bells in return for furniture or clothing.

Lastly, overall luck is pretty self-explanatory. By stacking green furniture in the south, this results in an increase in both your item and money luck, and you should see better results in both areas overall.

One final thing to note is that following the Feng Shui guidelines will increase your weekly HHA rating, though it’s not a big points bonus. You’ll know you’re doing the Feng Shui placements correctly when the HHA letter makes a note of it in the weekly post.

That’s all you need to know about how Feng Shui works in Animal Crossing New Horizons. Be sure to check our guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
