Nioh 2: How to Heal & Use Elixirs

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Like its predecessor, Nioh 2 is a punishing ARPG in which every single combat encounter poses a threat. Not only is any enemy type capable of rendering you incapacitated in short order but recovery items are few and far between and need to be managed effectively so that you are not caught short at an awkward moment. Here we’ll explain the vital process of how to heal/use elixirs in Nioh 2.

How to Heal & Use Elixers in Nioh 2

Healing your character in Nioh 2 is extremely simple, requiring you only to press up on the d-pad to use the Elixir. It is important to note that you’ll only have three elixirs to use when you start out in Nioh 2.

However, these three elixirs do replenish. Indeed, just as in the iconic Souls series from which Nioh takes a heavy dose of inspiration, Nioh 2 features a checkpoint system called Shrines that replenishes your items after resting there. So if you have no more elixirs, simply rest at a shrine to get more.

Getting More Elixirs

It is possible to pick up more elixirs and increase your total supply from three. This is primarily achieved through two different means: killing enemies and looting their corpses, or purchasing more elixirs from the Kodama Bazaar.

Relevant to the first option, there is a way to increase your chances of picking up elixirs from fallen enemies by taking the Kodama Blessing called Healer Blessing. To grant the ability you’ll need to locate the right Kodama in whichever area you’re exploring.

Other Ways to Heal

While elixirs are the go-to recovery item, they aren’t the only way to heal in Nioh 2. Items like the Herbal Remedy work, too, though it is rarer to find and a more precious commodity that should only be used in a pinch.

More relevant are the Onmyo Magic heal options like Life Leech Talisman, Oasis Talisman, and the Rejuvenation Talisman. You’ll obviously need to build your character toward these abilities as you progress through the game, but certainly, if you’re keen to ensure an abundance of HP recovery then those are Talismans that should be on your radar.

That should be everything you need to know about how to heal/use elixirs in Nioh 2. For more useful tips and guides on the game do check out Twinfinite’s extensive guide wiki page.
