Over the past two decades, the Pokemon franchise has grown so massive to the point where we’ve gotten more Pokemon types than we can keep track of. Not to mention hybrid Pokemon with more than one type to contend with; things can get pretty tricky even in regular battles these days, but we’re here to help you out. Here’s what the Fairy type weaknesses are in Pokemon Sword & Shield.
What the Fairy Type Weaknesses Are in Pokemon Sword & Shield
The Fairy Gym battle against Opal in Ballonlea is one of the tougher ones you’ll have to go through in Pokemon Sword & Shield. However, if you have some basic knowledge about type match-ups, and learn to build a diverse party around those weaknesses, you should be able to clear it without too much trouble.
In general, Fairy type Pokemon are week to Steel and Poison types. Poison-type Pokemon feel a little harder to come by in the game, but you can get a Steel Pokemon very early on by catching Galarian Meowth while on Route 4.
However, just having Steel and Poison creatures won’t be enough to take down Opal in the Gym. She comes packed with Pokemon like Weezing and Mawile as well, who aren’t susceptible to the usual Fairy weaknesses, so if you’ve got a Fire Pokemon handy, you’ll want to make use of those Fire moves to take them down quickly.
Because of dual-typing, which is becoming more commonplace in the series at this point, you’ll want to try to keep a diverse team that’s able to poke at a variety of weaknesses at any point in time. Always be open to swapping in new options, and don’t paint yourself into a corner by just using the same six Pokemon all the time.
They are weak to Poison and Steel types.
