Pokémon Sword & Shield: How to Redeem Preorder DLC

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Those who purchased Pokémon Sword & Shield through the internet should’ve received a code (or codes, as dynamax crystals and the 12 quick balls are separate) sent to the email tied to your Nintendo account. You will notice that the code isn’t one that works with Nintendo’s eShop on the Switch. Below you will find instructions on how to redeem Preorder DLC in Pokémon Sword & Shield.

As the code(s) don’t work in the eShop, it is instead meant to be a code for use at the in-game Mystery Gift menu, so you will need to access the Mystery Gift menu while in the game itself, rather than at the main menu.

You will want to select Get a Mystery Gift and select the option for Get With Code or Password and click yes on the dialog option to save your progress and connect your game to the internet.

Once you are connected and have the option, enter the code and exit back into the normal game. Be sure to save your game as the code cannot be used again and if you lose the progress, the items are lost forever.

Repeat the process if you have another code to use. The items will appear straight into your bag in game, no need to go to a separate menu to accept them.

To summarize how to redeem your preorder DLC in Pokémon Sword & Shield:

  1. Start the game and load your save.

  2. Navigate to the Mystery Gift menu.

  3. Select Get Mystery Gift with Code/Password.

  4. Hit YES for your game to save and connect to the internet.

  5. Exit back into your game and the items should be in your bag.

  6. Be extra sure to save your game.
