Though They Are Billions‘ other resources are easy enough to harvest and collect, figuring out how to get oil in They Are Billions can be a challenging and time consuming endeavor.

How to Get Oil in They Are Billions

A late-game resource, oil is necessary to construct and maintain high level units like Lucifer and Titan. Though it is possible to get through the game without utilizing the resource or units that use it, doing so will lead to a considerably harder experience.

Unfortunately, this is what many players have ended up doing, as the method for obtaining oil isn’t as clearly laid out as it could be.

Fortunately, we’ve done the leg work and created a step by step guide on how to get oil, from where to locate deposits of the resource itself to what facilities you need to create to harvest it.

How to Find Oil

First and foremost, you’ll need to find deposits of oil scattered around the map. There’s no exact pattern to where they’re located, so whether you happen upon them or not depends on how the map you’re playing on was generated.

To find them, look for steaming pools of what look like water. When you happen upon a deposit, keep a mental note of it until you’re ready to harvest from it.

How to Harvest Oil

Next, you’ll need to be able to craft Refineries. These structures can only be built after the last tier of facilities have been unlocked via the tech tree.

To unlock this tier, play through the game until you gain the necessary experience and resources to unlock it. Again, oil is a late-game resource, so don’t expect to unlock this tier until you’re fairly far into the game.

Once the tier is unlocked, go back to any deposits of oil you’ve come across. Open up the structure construction menu and select the Refinery.

This will create a glowing prefab of the refinery that will glow green and be placeable once it’s squarely over the oil deposit. Align the prefab, then set the refinery to start harvesting oil.
