Metal Gear Solid V Guide – How to Get a Higher Heroism Score

But he's already a demon.
This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

By now, you’ve probably noticed that you gain a certain amount of Heroism points each time you complete a main mission in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. It isn’t explicitly explained what these points are for, but if Peace Walker’s any indication, a higher Heroism point means that you’re more likely to receive volunteers willing to join your ranks in Diamond Dogs. It could also have other positive effects on the field, such as getting enemy soldiers to be more willing to spill the beans when you interrogate them. Listed below are all the ways you can push that score up quickly.

Recommended Videos

1. Be non-lethal

This is pretty self-explanatory. Killing enemies with an assault rifle or blowing them to hell will deduct points from your Heroism score. However, choosing to tranquilize them and then Fultoning them back to Mother Base will net you Heroism points.

2. Rescue animals

It pays to help the wildlife out in Afghanistan and Africa. Bring D-Dog along with you on missions and he’ll help to mark out wild animals on the map. Tranquilizing them and then transporting them back to Mother Base will raise your Heroism score.

3. Complete optional objectives

Whenever you’re tackling a main mission or a side op, be sure to check your iDroid for optional objectives you can fulfill in the mission. Some of these will include rescuing a certain number of extra prisoners, stealing a particular blueprint, or destroying a number of armored tanks. Ticking off each of these will give you more points to be added to your Heroism score.

4. Send your Combat Unit out on Dispatch Missions

Once you’ve unlocked the Combat Unit on Mother Base, check the Combat Deployment menu on your iDroid to send them out on missions. Not only does this give you rewards such as GMP, resources, and additional volunteers, succeeding in a mission will also give you extra Heroism points.

Do note that doing silly things like punching D-Dog, or getting a supply drop to knock your horse on the head will actually deduct points from your score, so… y’know, don’t do that.
