This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

It can be tricky to find the best games to play cooperatively with a friend either online or locally, but there were some awesome video game releases last month that you should definitely check out if you’ve been searching for good ones to play.

Based on the film with the same name, World War Z throws you and 3 other players into a hoard-shooting online experience that requires the utmost cooperation and strategy to survive the crazed and deadly zombies.

We also got a new BoxBoy game for the Nintendo Switch that allows a second player to jump into the puzzle-solving game as BoxGirl for the first time ever. These tricky block puzzles can hurt your brain, but if you have a buddy by your side, you can work together –two heads are better than one as they say.

There was also a Switch port of the very difficult retro-styled 2D platformer, Cuphead, as well as the medieval hack and slash game, Mordhau.

You can look below for the list of best co-op multiplayer games for April 2019. And, if you want more info on each respective title, you can continue to scroll down.

World War Z

World War Z is based on the book and film of the same name and is a new cooperative multiplayer shooter reminiscent of another zombie shooter, Left 4 Dead.

Teaming with up to four players, you have to make a strategy and communicate with one another to kill waves of zombies that come in hoards. World War Z explores new storylines from characters in the universe and fleshes out this dangerous world.

BoxBoy! + BoxGirl!

The BoxBoy series started off on the Nintendo 3DS and gave players a simple-looking monochromatic puzzle game that proved to be quite difficult.

This time though, BoxBoy has a friend with him to help solve puzzles, aptly named BoxGirl. You can play every single level with another player, using both of your brains to figure out how to traverse these bite-sizes stages.

You’re going to have to think out-of-the-box to accomplish all of the block puzzles in this co-op Switch title.

 Mordhau

Mordhau is a multiplayer medieval hack and slash game on Steam that lets you create your own warrior and enter in huge battles against other swordsmen to take over enemy forts and castles.

There’s basically a battle royale mode that’s playable for up to 64 players, ensuing in a grande and bloody war that will leave one winner standing.

If you like playing these types of games with friends, Mordhau has a co-op mode where you can team up and fight against waves of enemies together.

Cuphead (Nintendo Switch)

Cuphead has finally managed to come to the Nintendo Switch eShop after a very surprising announcement that the game would no longer be a Microsoft exclusive.

After Cuphead and Mugman lose their soul to the Devil after literally gambling their lives away, the duo is tasked with collecting the souls from a whole bunch of bosses.

Cuphead’s visual style reminds us of old-school cartoon animations like Steamboat Willie back in the 1920s. Each boss encounter is insanely hard and will require the utmost patience, hopefully, you have a friend that can help you surpass these challenges as the game is entirely playable with a second player by your side.
