Smash Bros Ultimate: How to Beat Funky Kong in Smash Bros Ultimate
Here’s everything you need to know about how to beat Funky Kong in World of Light in Smash Bros Ultimate.
The World of Light is ripe with plenty of difficult challenges for Smash Bros Ultimate players to overcome. With only one Stock and special effects in play, defeating foes like Funky Kong is going to take some preparation and skill.
No matter the difficulty, defeating this Donkey Kong character’s spirit on the board is no easy task. Alongside having to go against Captain Falcon, Donkey Kong, and Diddy Kong all out once, the Funky Kong fight places Bullet Bill items all throughout the map.
Defending Against Bullet Bills
Bullet Bills do considerable damage and can send whoever is hit by them flying. Since you’ll be going against three characters at once, the chances your opponent is able to grab them and spam the attack against you is pretty likely.
While the damage is going to be a big problem for these attacks when added up, the most annoying part is that each one that lands interrupts your offense. The best way to combat this is by choosing a character, skill, and spirits that won’t get interrupted or tossed around.
Donkey Kong is always a solid pick for this fight, as he is the heaviest of the six characters that are unlockable from the beginning. Heavier weight makes him less prone to being launched off the map than that of a Jigglypuff or Kirby.
For skills, you should purchase and equip the Unflinching Charged Smashes perk in the skill tree. This makes it so that your charged attacks won’t be interrupted by the incoming Bullet Bill barrage.
When choosing your spirit, try and pick a strong primary that has three support slots. In those slots, you’ll want to assign a Made of Metal spirit to at least one of them.
Just like with the Unflinching Charged Smashes, the Made of Metal spirit makes it so that your attacks won’t get interrupted and you’ll be harder to toss. For the other two slots, add attack damage, as an offense is necessary after establishing your defense.
Once you start the fight, spam charged smash attacks, as they won’t get interrupted. You’ll do some serious damage to start, likely eliminating two of the three characters before the metal wears off and the Bullet Bills begin to spawn.
If you do it right, the fight will come down to one on one. Be sure to try and grab the item yourself if you can, but also be wary that firing it in the wrong area can lead to killing your own character off screen.
