How to Play Co-op with Friends in Pokemon Let’s Go
Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee might be full-on remakes of the original Game Boy games, but they also pack in a few new features that might be appealing even to longtime fans. For instance, you no longer have to journey through Kanto alone, and you can bring a friend with you. Here’s how you can play local co-op with friends in Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee.
As I mentioned earlier, there is only local co-op available in this game, meaning that you can’t connect with another player online and play through the game together this way. To start, you’ll need to connect two Joy-Cons to your Switch. In order to summon a support player to your game, simply shake the second Joy-Con, and you’ll get a companion for your journey. Now, just pass on the second Joy-Con to a friend beside you, and both of you can play together via local co-op.
Your friend will only be able to use the second Pokemon currently in your party, and they’ll be able to move their support trainer around as well. Also, this means that you can essentially get into trainer battles with a 2v1 advantage in Pokemon Let’s Go, as you’ll get to act twice during each turn. This should make the game way easier than it already is.
Playing with Friends Online
That’s not to say that Pokemon Let’s Go doesn’t have any online functionality either. It might not have online co-op, but you can still battle and trade with friends.
Simply bring up the main menu by pressing X, then choose the Communicate option. From here, choose to play with friends, then select either the Trade or Battle option, depending on what you want to do. You can then choose to connect with another player online, or via a wireless LAN connection.
It’s important to note, however, that Pokemon Let’s Go will not match you with random strangers online. If you choose to connect via an internet connection, it has to be with someone you know, as both players need to enter the same link code in order to be matched up with each other in Pokemon Let’s Go.
It’s not ideal, but at least you still have some options if you really want to battle your friends in this game.
That’s all you need to know about how to play co-op with friends in Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee. Be sure to search for Twinfinite or check our Pokemon Let’s Go guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
