Can You Play Fallout 76 Single Player? What You Need to Know
Wondering whether you can go off and play Fallout 76 solo? Here’s whether or not it’s possible to play Fallout 76 single player.
The Fallout series has long been synonymous with a sense of lonely exploration out in a post-apocalyptic wasteland you’re completely foreign too. While NPCs have established themselves across the world, you were just taking your first steps.
In Fallout 76, however, Bethesda has opted to bring players together into a shared world experience. That has some long-term fans worried, and others simply asking the question: can you play Fallout 76 single player?
Unfortunately, we’ve got some good and bad news for you, though the bad news is sure to outweigh the good. Fallout 76, whether you like it or not, has to be played with other players inhabiting the same game world as you. There’s no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
From time to time, you’re likely going to come across other players who are searching the same buildings or taking down the same mutated creatures that you had in your sights. There’s nothing you can do to avoid this, but you can, to an extent, still play solo and minimize the impact of other players in your world.
One of the main concerns of sceptics of Fallout 76’s shared world experience is ‘griefers.’ The term given to players who simply head into a game just to shoot others and ensure they can’t go ahead and do whatever it is they want in the world. Fortunately, Bethesda has provided an option called Pacifist Mode which essentially turns off PvP. This means you can’t be shot (or if you do it does a tiny amount of damage) by other players, and vice versa.
How to Turn On Pacifist Mode & Switch Off PvP
- Press the Options button on PS4 or Menu button on Xbox One to open the map.
- Press L1 or LB from here, and head down to Settings.
- Select the ‘Game’ option here.
- You should new see the option of Pacifist Mode. Turn this to ‘On’ and you’ll essentially disable PvP, taking you one step closer to a slightly more Fallout 76 solo experience.
You’re still going to deal with other players popping up every once in a while, but you’ll now be free to go exploring without being shot in the head by another player.
How to Buff Your Solo Adventure in Fallout 76
Similarly, there’s a Perk card you can get in Fallout 76 within the Charisma option that gives players who prefer to adventure alone a bit of a buff. Lone Wanderer provides solo players a 10% reduction in damage taken and a 10% buff to AP regen. By increasing the rank, you’ll increase the percentages for both of these, though we’re yet to be able to confirm what these percentages are.
And so there you have what you need to know about Fallout 76 single player. Sure, it’s not as great as simply having the entirety of the West Virginia wasteland to yourself, but at least you can nullify the impact of other players in your server.
