How to Cleave a Ship in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is the latest entry in Ubisoft’s popular and long-running franchise, and it also brings back the naval and ship combat that was introduced back in Black Flag. Just like in that game, you’ll get to sail the high seas and travel around the Greek regions as you please. Along the way, you’ll probably run into a few hostile ships, and you’ll need to learn how to deal with them. One way you can finish them off is by cleaving them. If you’re wondering how to cleave a ship in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, we’ve got you covered.

Firstly, if your ship is of adequate ramming strength and you’re a far higher level than the opposing boat, then holding X and going straight through its side’s middle will cause you to automatically rip right through.

Otherwise, if you’re not of an adequate level or ramming strength, before you can cleave a ship in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, you need to deplete its HP completely. You can do this by having your archers pelt them with arrows, or throw javelins at them when they’re close to you. Keep doing this until the enemy ship’s health bar is completely gone. When the health bar is depleted, you’ll see a white anchor symbol above the ship itself.

At this point, you’ll be able to either board the ship or ram on through it. If you want to cleave the ship, get some distance between yourself and the enemy ship. Then hold down the X button and speed towards the middle of the ship. Your goal here is to basically slice it in half by ramming it through its side.

If you’re successful, you’ll be notified that you’ve just done it. You’ll also restore a bit of your own ship armor after taking it down. Before leaving, don’t forget to collect all the loot on that ship, as well.

Oh, and a wonderful trophy (or achievement) will pop, too.

Cleaving a ship is a good tactic to employ if you want to move on quickly and not have to deal with the whole boarding process, but you do seem to get a little less loot with this method. So just keep that in mind.

That’s all you need to know to cleave a ship in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Be sure to check our Assassin’s Creed Odyssey guide wiki for more tips, tricks, and guides.
