The Aftermath

After the events of the previous episode, The Walking Dead: Final Season episode 2 starts off with a lot of tension. Now that AJ has shot Marlon, everyone in the school is immediately wary and distrustful of Clem and AJ. In our playthrough, Violet stood up for us during the confrontation, so apart from her and Tenn, everyone else is pretty pissed at us. Immediately after Marlon’s death, Mitch gets aggressive, and even Louis calls AJ a murderer in shock at his best friend’s death. Violet tells Clem and AJ to go back to the dorm while she sorts things out.

The next morning, AJ asks Clem if he really is a murderer, and the player will have the option to either say that he did nothing wrong, or reason with him a little more. Clem ends up telling AJ that he needs to atone for what he did. Meeting up with the rest of the group, we find out that the group will take a vote to decide if Clem and AJ will stay at, or leave the school. The group also holds a funeral for both Marlon and Brody, and Clem explains the concept of a funeral to AJ. In the end, they’re forced to leave, and Violet and Louis offer to escort them to the border of the safe zone.

Leaving the School

As they start leaving the school, Violet expresses her frustration at Louis and the group for refusing to let Clem and AJ stay, while Louis still seems pretty pissed off. In the end, though, before they leave, Louis at least expresses a bit of guilt when he realizes they’re sending them back to the road.

As Clem and AJ start walking towards the road, they find Abel, the raider they ran into in the previous episode. Clem tries to ambush him, but Abel’s ally manages to pin her down. They grab AJ as well, and Abel starts threatening them, asking Clem to take them to the school. However, when his unnamed ally gets a good look at Clem, they realize that they actually know each other. The ally turns out to be Lilly, whom we last saw in The Walking Dead Season 1. Lilly tells Clem that their group will take her and AJ in, and raise him to become strong, but they have to take them to the school in return.

Out of the corner of her eye, Clem notices Violet and Louis watching from the bushes. At this point, you can either yell at them to run, or ask Violet to shoot Lilly. If Violet fires an arrow at Lilly, she’ll retaliate and shoot Louis in the arm. Thanks to the distraction, Clem and AJ get to run off in the woods while being chased by Abel and Lilly. AJ gets shot in the gut, but thankfully, a group of walkers enter the fray, forcing the raiders to retreat. As Clem tries to defend AJ from the walkers, she meets a boy dressed in walker skin who distracts the pack, then leads them to safety.

Following the Stranger

With no other choice, Clem carries AJ and follows the stranger to a campfire. With his help, she removes the shrapnel from AJ’s wound and patches him up, but he’s still running a fever. The stranger introduces himself as James, and explains that he was part of a group that learned how to walk among the walkers. He also mentions that the raiders were fighting a war with another community, and that they were kidnapping people to recruit them as soldiers to help in the fight. Later on, James tells Clem to get some sleep and offers to keep watch. The player will then have the option to either go to sleep, or keep watch along with him.

Next morning, Clem carries AJ, and James leads them back to the school. Seeing Clem exhausted and AJ injured, Louis quickly opens the gate and lets them back in. Upstairs, Ruby offers to patch him up, while Violet and Clem have a chat in the office. Clem warns her of the incoming attack from the raiders, and they agree that they need to strengthen their defenses to survive it. Violet suggests going to the greenhouse to find some barbed wire, and she sends Mitch and Ruby to accompany Clem.

Building a Fortress

At the greenhouse, Clem manages to get in, and she kills a few walkers before opening the door to let in Mitch and Ruby. They quickly find the barbed wire in a closet, and Mitch proposes finding some propane and an igniter so that he can create an explosive. As they explore more of the greenhouse, they also find a decaying walker who Ruby recognizes as Ms Martin, a nurse at the school who really looked out for the kids. At Ruby’s request, Clem kills Ms Martin. The player also has the option of helping Ruby dig a grave for her.

Back at the school, Louis starts to come to his senses and warms up to Clem and AJ again. While AJ continues to rest up while healing from his wound, Clem spends the next two weeks helping the group set up defenses all over the school. During this time, AJ crafts a knife of his own. Clem also starts to notice that AJ is hardening up a little, and players have the option of either encouraging his behavior or trying to soften him and remind him that he’s still just a kid.

The next day, Violet asks Clem to check on everyone to make sure they’re ready for the attack. For the most part, they are, and Louis also gives Clem a bow to shoot with. When tensions rise between Aasim and Willy about the traps they’re setting up, Louis proposes playing a card game to loosen everyone up. The group plays Truth or Dare, and at this point, players also have the option of deciding whether Clem has feelings for anyone at the school.

After the card game, Clem has some time before her lookout shift, and she can choose to either help Louis with a project at the piano room, or check the defenses with Violet from the tower. It’s worth noting that the person you chose not to go with might end up feeling a little rejected by the end of the episode. Also, depending on the choices you’ve been making throughout the story, you can also have Clem pursue a romantic relationship with Violet or Louis. After spending time with either of them, Clem will go meet AJ at the lookout point.

Telltale’s Walking Dead: Final Season Episode 2 Story Summary

The Raiders Attack

Right before the siege, AJ admits to Clem that he’s been having nightmares about Abel, but he’s ready to face his fears. He also “calls dibs” on Abel whenever the raiders attack. Clem can reprimand him for talking about killing in such a casual way, and AJ will respond by saying that she can’t tell him “no” forever. Soon after, AJ spots the raiders trying to mount a sneak attack, and the kids get into position.

Lilly takes charge of the attack and she faces off against Clem. She taunts the group by saying that Minnie had grown adjusted to her life with the raiders, and this causes Tenn to step up to Lilly, and he asks if he can see her again. After Clem tries to dissuade Tenn from going with Lilly, the raiders start attacking. During the attack, Mitch gets knifed in the throat by Lilly, and the rest of them retreat into the building.

Upstairs, Clem and AJ face off against Abel, and she eventually manages to push him off the railing, but Abel pulls her along with him. When she regains consciousness, she sees Abel’s leg literally snapped in half (so he isn’t going anywhere), and Lilly pointing a gun straight at her, but Clem manages to get in her head and force Lilly to hesitate. Before the situation escalates any further, Louis tackles Lilly, and the walkers start to break into the school.

After getting her bow back, Clem is again forced to choose between stopping the raiders from taking Louis away, or saving Violet. After making your choice, Lilly will tell the raiders to cut their losses, and retreat with whoever they managed to kidnap.

At the end of the episode, Clem states that they’re going after the raiders, and they’ll force Abel to spill the beans on their location.
