Pokemon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon: How to Get the Shiny Charm

Recommended Videos

The Shiny Charm is a Key Item in the Pokemon series that was introduced in the fifth generation of games during Pokemon Black 2 and White 2, and man does it make life a whole lot easier. It triples your odds of finding a shiny Pokemon which, as I’m sure you know, is an extreme grind to do naturally. Though there’s enormous benefit to obtaining the Shiny Charm in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, getting one sure isn’t easy.

First off, you’ll need to complete the Alola Pokedex. That’s right – all 400 creatures have to be caught for you to be deemed eligible for the prize. This includes those Pokemon native to the region as well as those originating from places like Kanto and Johto. There are lots of methods for obtaining all 400 including Wonder Trade and GTS, though do keep in mind that a lot of trainers on the latter system ask for Legendaries when they themselves only offer Tentacools. Your best bet may be finding trading partners online, like on Reddit or Discord.

Once you’ve completed the grueling task, go ahead and fly to Heahea City on Akala Island. Go to Game Freak’s headquarters on the second floor of the building that’s located on the left of the Dimensional Research Lab and speak to the company’s Director on the right side of the office. You’ll show him your completed Alola Pokedex and, in recognition of your accomplishment, he’ll give you a Regional Dex stamp on your Trainer Passport and the long-awaited Shiny Charm. Random encounters with Pokemon will now considerably decrease from 1 in 4096 to 1 in 1024.

Keep in mind that in order to receive the Shiny Charm you’ll need to catch the 400 monsters found within the Alola Pokedex, not all 802 Pokemon that exist across generations. There’s no need to put yourself through all that frustration (unless you really want to).
