Can You Pet a Dog? – The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Every once in a while, you’ll see an adorable four-legged friend wandering around one of the villages of Hyrule in Breath of the Wild. Now, it’s pretty much basic human instinct to immediately want to go and pet it, but it’s something that players have been unsure of whether or not you can even do in the game. Well, we’ve got some bad news for you.

The short answer to this question is no, you cannot pet a dog. A recent rumor had stated that by unequipping your weapon and pressing Y when stood next to a dog, you could pet it. After checking this out ourselves, we can confirm that this is not true. Instead, Link will just reach for his weapon off his back. With nothing there, he just puts his hand up in the air, looking a little bit clueless.

It’s a shame really. After all, who doesn’t want to give a furry friend out in the open world of Hyrule a bit of affection before continuing to save the world?
