The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Getting Ancient Cores
Ancient Cores are a rare material in Breath of the Wild, and you’ll need a good number of them if you want to upgrade your Rune powers. These items can be obtained either through Shrine chests, or as rare drops from killing Guardians.
So far, we’ve managed to find Ancient Cores in these Shrines: North Lomei Labyrinth, Akh Va’quot, and Dah Kaso. As it’s not guaranteed that you’ll get a Core from every Shrine you visit, it’s much easier to farm them from Guardians. That said, it should be noted that the rusty, stationary Guardians do not drop Ancient Cores. Killing them will only reward you with Springs, Screws, and Gears. You’ll want to fight the fully functional ones found around central Hyrule, as well as the flying ones in the northeastern region.
Do note that Ancient Cores are considered a rare drop from Guardians, so you’ll probably have to farm them for a while before you get all the items that you need. After obtaining enough Cores, take them to Purrah in Hateno Village to upgrade your Rune powers.
