ReCore: Tips and Tricks for Beginners

Color code your attacks

Every enemy that you come across in ReCore will have a different colored core. As you progress through the game, you’ll find upgrades for Joule’s rifle which just so happen to align with the colors of these cores. These different colored upgrades for your rifle will actually deal out more damage to their corresponding colored enemy.

For example, the red upgrade will deal out more damage on red enemies, yellow on yellow, and blue on blue. You’ll need to remember to manually switch between these different settings on your rifle during combat depending on what enemy you’re facing off against.

Core Extracting

ReCore offers you two different ways to finish off the evil robots that roam the world of Far Eden. You can either blast them with your rifle into smithereens, or you can rip out their core and use it to power up your own robot companions. These cores are broken down into Fusion Energy which can then be used to bolster the Attack, Defense, and Energy stats of your Corebots by visiting the workshop at your Crawler (the name for your ship).

In order to extract, you’ll need to focus on the color of the cord and control the tension of it too. Once you’ve clicked the stick down and initiated the extraction, you’ll be told to hold down on the right stick. However, when the cord of the grapple begins to go red you need to lift off the tension otherwise the cord will snap. Too little and you won’t grab the core and you’ll suffer damage too. Even if it seems to be getting away from you, wait for the cord to go back to its normal color before holding down on the stick again.

Don’t Forget to Upgrade

When you’re out and about in the vast desert landscape of Far Eden, you can often forget about your metallic companions by your side. Yes, they’re great for dealing out damage and helping you to traverse the world, but you’ll need to remember to upgrade them, too. Upgrades don’t just come in the form of fusion energy, either. Every Corebot has their own unique pieces which you can find new blueprints for scattered around the world.

Upgrading the fusion energy of your Corebots as well as switching their parts out for ones with better stats will not only have your Corebots looking way cooler with different colored parts, but they’ll also be far more powerful in battle when dealing out their lethal attacks. Whenever you see one of the fast travel pads, it’s often worthwhile taking the opportunity to head back to your Crawler, deposit all of the crafting materials you’ve gathered, and making sure your bots are as fully upgraded as possible.

Get Exploring

The world of Far Eden is a huge desert with plenty of nooks and crannies for hidden goodies to be stowed away. With that in mind, you’ll want to make sure that you’re always exploring your nearby surroundings for any platforms, ridges, or hidden areas that may well be hiding something of interest. A lot of these areas have supply caches, which, when opened can contain a bunch of blueprints for upgrades to your Corebots.

Not exploring the world can put you at a disadvantage as not having these parts available for you to craft can result in your Corebots being a little less powerful than you need them to be later on in the game. No matter how off-putting that huge tower is to scale, it’ll be worth it if you find some rare blueprints or a Prismatic Core stashed away.

Pick Up Prismatic Cores as You Go

One of the main things you’ll need along your journey are Prismatic Cores. Though the game sort of hints that they’re important, it never at any point tells you directly that you’re going to need to venture off the beaten path to find them for progression. Well it turns out, you do and it can be incredibly frustrating thanks to the long load times of the game to make your way back and collect Prismatic Cores you could have done if you’d just spent a little more time on your way.

Prismatic Cores are used to open up doorways to dungeons and other new areas that you’ll need to get to continue the story. If you only pick up the bare minimum of Prismatic Cores during your journey, it’ll come around to bite you later on down the road.

Don’t Back Out of a Fight

There are moments during the game as you’re making your way to the next objective marker on your map that you’ll find countless numbers of enemies getting in your way. While some may be a bit out of the way, allowing you to skip on by unnoticed, you’ll want to engage each and every one of them that you see.

Every time you battle an enemy, you’ll earn EXP towards your Joule’s level. The more enemies you defeat, naturally, the more EXP you’re going to earn and the higher your level. While this may not seem all that important on the surface, Joule’s level, just like the Prismatic Cores, are used to open up new areas of the map and allow you to further progress the main story. Ignoring battles will only lead you to seek out the exact same ones you walked past further down the road.
