Unlocking Competitive Mode in Overwatch 2

First off, if you’ve played the original Overwatch and you’ve participated in Competitive mode, you should be able to access Competitive mode in Overwatch 2 when it releases. As long as you’ve completed your 10 placement matches in any previous Competitive season and got a rank placement, you’ll be able to bypass the new player requirements to start climbing again.

On the other hand, if you’ve never played Competitive before or if you’re a new player, unlocking it in Overwatch 2 will take a bit of time. Here are the requirements:

  • Complete the First Time User Experience as a new player.
  • Win 50 matches in Quick Play mode.

New players will go through the FTUE, where they’ll slowly unlock new heroes to play around with and gain access to the other modes in Overwatch 2. After unlocking all heroes, they’ll also need to win 50 Quick Play matches.

Once these requirements have been met, you’ll be able to start taking part in Competitive. These requirements were put into place to prevent smurfs and boosters from running amok in ranked mode, while also making sure that newbies get acquainted with the game and all the characters before jumping in.

That’s all you need to know about how to play Competitive mode in Overwatch 2. Be sure to search for Twinfinite for more tips and information on the game, including our take on the FTUE, whether it has cross-play and progression, as well as our final preview.
