Getting Seafarer’s Cowries in FFXIV Island Sanctuary

Seafarer’s Cowries are a new type of currency exclusive to the Island Sanctuary mode in Final Fantasy XIV, and getting them is also very straightforward. Here are all the ways you can earn Seafarer’s Cowries in FFXIV:

  • Completing visions
  • Crafting and selling items through the workshop
  • Completing the Island Sanctuary challenge log

Think of visions as Island Sanctuary-specific quests. You’ll be able to take on new tasks from the various NPCs you meet in the Sanctuary as they guide you towards new goals like building a workshop, tilling the land for crops, and capturing animals. Each time you achieve one of these goals and complete a vision, you’ll be rewarded with Seafarer’s Cowries.

Basically, the more you develop your island and the more advanced it becomes, the more Seafarer’s Cowries you’ll get. With that in mind, we recommend trying to improve your island as much as possible to get the most out of it.

After you’ve exhausted your visions, you can make use of the workshop to bring in additional income. The workshop is constructed after you’ve built your pasture and cropland, and you’ll be able to talk to the Tactful Taskmaster to get your Mammets to craft items and sell them for Seafarer’s Cowries.

While speaking with the Tactful Taskmaster, you can set a workshop schedule with a lineup of items you want them to craft. Do make sure that you have enough materials for the items or production won’t begin. The production process will take up real Earth hours, so you’ll need to check back later for your earnings.

Finally, just like with the combat, gathering, and crafting classes, there’s a challenge log for you to check out in the Island Sanctuary as well. These are simple objectives you can complete to rake in more Cowries, and usually involve you building a certain number of structures, capturing animals, and watering crops, which you’ll complete naturally.

What Seafarer’s Cowries Are For

If you go to your cozy cabin in the Island Sanctuary, you’ll be able to speak with the Horrendous Hoarder NPC who allows you to purchase items with your Cowries. Select the Seafarer’s Cowries option to see what they have for sale.

  • Isle Explorer’s Shirt: 3,000 Cowries
  • Isle Explorer’s Leather Halfgloves: 2,000 Cowries
