When the title for the newest Doctor Strange film was released, it seemed certain that a film titled Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness would be bursting with cameos. Although some fans may have left the film disappointed with how many cameos were in the film, there were still plenty of fun surprises along the way. Of course, spoilers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will follow as we rank the cameos in the film.

8. Michael Waldron
Michael Waldron’s cameo sure is brief; it’s very much a blink and you miss it situation, and this is one that might pass you by unless you’re really dialed in. Waldron plays Charlie’s Best Man — Charlie being the person who marries Dr. Christine Palmer.
For those not up to speed, Waldron wrote Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Loki.
Of course, since he’s only onscreen for a short time at Christine’s wedding at the beginning of the film, and due to the fact that many audience members wouldn’t recognize him, we’ve put Michael Waldron at the bottom spot on our list.
7. Captain Marvel
From the trailers showcased during the build-up to the film’s launch, a Captain Marvel-like figure was showcased who was obviously not Brie Larson. Some fans thought it could have been Tom Cruise playing an alternate version of Iron Man but it was instead Lashana Lynch playing Captain Marvel. Lashana Lynch played Maria Rambeau in Captain Marvel and in the scenes with the Illuminati it seems that Rambeau was the Captain Marvel of that universe. She’s so high up because even though it was a cool idea, Lynch has only been in one film, and she didn’t really do much in her appearance.
6. Captain Carter
Another clue that was given away in promotional material ahead of the film’s release date was Captain Carter’s status as an Illuminati member. What wasn’t given away but was assumed, though, was that Hayley Atwell would be reprising her role from the Captain America films and Marvel’s What If…? The premise of Captain Carter was introduced in What If…? the Disney + series and it wasted no time introducing her in live-action.
As cool as that was, given that the trailer gave her appearance away and because her moments in the film didn’t land quite as hard as some of the other cameos on this list, we’re putting this one down in sixth spot.
5. Black Bolt
This is a cameo that hardly anybody wanted and hardly anybody but Blackagar Boltagon expected: Black Bolt cameoing as a member of the Illuminati. Anson Mount reprised his role from the (rightly) short-lived Inhumans series from 2015.
Surprisingly, his cameo actually worked extremely well. Not only in the short time he was onscreen did Marvel manage to introduce the scope and nature of his powers but Wanda also killed him in a memorable way, and that’s why Black Bolt sits at number five.
4. Clea
Doctor Strange fans might have been expecting to see Clea make an appearance in the film. Strange’s longtime apprentice turned lover, turned Sorcerer Supreme, Clea appeared in one of the film’s post-credits scenes portrayed by Charlize Theron. While those familiar with the Marvel Cinematic Universe might not know who she is, fans of Marvel comics and Doctor Strange specifically certainly will be. Add that to Clea being played by Charlize Theron, who is perhaps most known for her role as Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road, and it’s no surprise she’s coming in hot at number four on this list.
3. Professor Charles Xavier
If it weren’t for having heard his iconic voice during promo trailers ahead of the film’s launch, Sir Patrick Stewart returning as Professor Charles Xavier of the X-Men would have probably nabbed number one spot.
Still, his cameo in the film was especially clever as it actually served as two cameos at once; Sir Patrick Stewart is, of course, the actor who played the character in the X-Men films, and also the theme that played when he wheeled out in his yellow hoverchair belonged to the X-Men animated series. Seeing as it has been confirmed that we’re getting a sequel to that animated series, titled X-Men ’97, we’re hedging our bets that this is the version of the character we’ll see in that series.
As is related to the movie, it’s also notable that Dr. Xavier both helps Doctor Strange and even tries to help Wanda before she brutally decapitates him. An easy third spot for the legendary character!
2. Bruce Campbell
Bruce Campbell has collaborated with director Sam Raimi many times in the past, so Campbell’s cameo as a street food vendor from another universe named the Pizza Poppa will surely have been greatly appreciated by Raimi fans.
This isn’t actually the first time Raimi has cameoed in a superhero project, having appeared in Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. In each movie, he played a different role, as a ring announcer in the first, a snooty usher in the second, and a French maître d’ in the third film. Campbell was also due to be in the fourth canceled Spider-Man film, playing Quinton Beck, Mysterio, which Jake Gyllenhall played in Spider-Man Far From Home. He also narrated the tutorials in the Spider-Man movie tie-in games.
Top it off with the scene having Campbell punch himself as a nod to Evil Dead and one of the funniest MCU post-credits scenes to date, Bruce Campbell takes the number two spot on this list.
1. Mister Fantastic
John Krasinski, who played Jim in The Office, making his cameo as Reed Richards, Mister Fantastic of the Fantastic Four is absolutely the one we were most excited to see. The actor has, of course, been a fan favorite for a future Fantastic Four film for a long time.
Sure, time was short for Reed after Wanda destroyed him, but he had all the makings of a great Mister Fantastic. Teleporting into the Illuminati chambers, for example, and referencing his wife and children were both very good touches and gave the character a bit more depth than the other Illuminati members and cameos. Whether or not he will return as the character in the future is unknown, but the cameo was enough to net him number one on this list.
