At this point, you should be hitting around level 40-45 of your chosen build, and that is a good place to start when facing Rennala. There are two distinct phases you will need to push through, although the first is definitely a way easier time.

Phase 1

Taking place in a huge library filled with crawling followers and Rennala suspended high in the air in a protective shield, your first task is to bring her back to the ground. Look for followers with a glowing yellow aura, you can also hear the singing of the creepy lullaby get louder if you are near, plus, these anointed followers will be throwing purple books at you.

Hit them with any attack, and the aura will jump to another follower. Do this three times, and Rennala’s shield will be broken as she comes crashing down. This is your chance to attack her and cause damage. Do watch out as she will regenerate the shield with an explosive blast, so do roll out of the way once you see her charging.

Watch out for falling chandeliers and her followers’ fire breath, and if you hear her uttering something about having her children “born anew,” retreat behind the bookcases to avoid projectile damage. It won’t take too long before you end this first phase of Rennala in Elden Ring, hopefully with no damage done to you.

Phase 2

After a stunning cutscene, you will be thrown back into the fight with Rennala. The arena is now wide open, and the boss will unleash a plethora of magical attacks to bring you down. Some are very easy to avoid, such as flying crystals and giant moons. However, if you see her building a green magical attack, you will need to dodge at the very last moment to avoid a great deal of pain.

To get your attacks in, you will need to either use ranged attacks whenever Rennala’s magic misses, or get up close to get melee attacks in. Any weapons with Bleeding will do well here, and if you can hit her consistently, her attacks can be interrupted. Summoning spirits can also help distract her from targeting you.

Once her health is down to about health, she will start summoning her own spirits, which can ranged from wolves to even a dragon. These spirits will disappear over time, so you should avoid engaging them at all costs. Keep up the pressure, and Rennala will fall.
