How to Get Mesprit in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

The original Gen 4 games are the ones that created the issue of there being too many legendaries in-game. Legendaries are heavily integrated into the story of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl so yeah, there’s a lot to catch! In this guide, we’ll go over one of fourteen legendary Pokemon native to Sinnoh. Here’s how to get Mesprit in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Catching Mesprit in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

For starters, if you want to catch the Knowledge Pokemon Mesprit, you’re first going to need a few prerequisites. You must have progressed through the game far enough to have battled either Palkia or Dialga, depending on which game you have. Progressing through the story will get you there, and after you’ve gotten past that point, you’ll be eligible to find and catch Mesprit as the people blocking the entrance to its lair will have moved.

Your first step is to fly all the way back home to Twinleaf Town. When was the last time you went there? From Twinleaf Town head on over to the Verity Lakefront where you first met your starter Pokemon. The Lake has now been restored and you’ll be able to surf onto the center of the lake and reach a cavern.

The cavern will house Mesprit but don’t get too attached to it. After you interact with it, like Uxie and Azelf, it will run away and you’ll have to chase it down to have a chance at battling it. It can be in any of the routes and when you encounter a wild Pokemon from now on, it has a chance to be Mesprit.

Rather than going crazy searching the entire world, make sure you, instead, have the Marking App for your Poketch which will help you track Mesprit.

Marking App & Tracking, Catching Roaming Mesprit

Go to the Poketch building in the top left corner of Jubilife City and speak to the president right in the lobby (a unique-looking character wearing a purple shirt). Speak to him a few times and you’ll receive the Marking App as long as you’ve progressed far enough in the story (which you should be if you’re able to even meet Mesprit at this point).

The easiest way to track and catch Mesprit is to stand right on the border of two areas where Mesprit can appear (Valley Windworks and Route 205 are popular, but anything similar will work fine), and then have your Marking App open.

Anytime you zone into a new area, your marker on the map and the marker for Mesprit (the little cat-looking face on the app) will move. Go back and forth, checking each time you zone, until you and Mesprit are in the same area. When you are, keep getting in wild Pokemon encounters until you run into the wild Mesprit. You may need to check different patches of high grass, so don’t just stick to the same one. You can use repels to push away anything except Mesprit.

Obviously, make sure to save your game in case you screw up (or if you want to shiny hunt, bless your soul). We highly recommend bringing Ultra Balls, and Timer Balls.

Mesprit will run away shortly after the battle starts. The easiest way to solve this problem is to use your Master Ball. Mesprit, considering how annoying it is to track and catch, isn’t the worst thing to use your Master Ball on.

If you decide to fight it, you’ll want to either lead with a Pokemon that can use Sleep or Paralyze on it so you can keep it in the battle for a few turns (aka the old-school method) or you can bring a Pokemon that has a trapping move such as Arena Trap or Mean Look, and this will lock Mesprit into battle. This is honestly the easiest method aside from just using your Master Ball on it.
