One of the exciting new features in the Animal Crossing New Horizons: Happy Home Paradise DLC is the ability to design various facilities for villagers to use, such as a school, a hospital, a restaurant, and more. When you jump into the DLC, you aren’t given this option right away, so you might be wondering how you go about unlocking the ability to create these types of buildings. How to Design Facilities in AC New Horizons Happy Home Paradise

Facilities are unlocked gradually as you progress through the Happy Home Paradise DLC. You must design a certain number of vacation homes for villagers before Lottie and the Paradise Planning committee decides to renovate some empty buildings around the island that will be used as facilities that everyone can enjoy.

Each facility is unlocked in a specific order. Therefore, you must keep taking on new jobs by designing more and more vacation homes before you can design each and every facility in the game.

Here is a list of each facility and how many jobs must be completed to unlock it:

  • School – 6 homes completed
  • Restaurant – 12 homes completed
  • Cafe – 12 homes completed
  • Hospital – 24 homes completed
  • Apparel Shop – 30 homes completed

After the 12 vacation homes milestone, you’ll be able to choose the order in which you design the restaurant and cafe. The one you don’t choose can be completed afterwards.

As you’re designing these facilities, you’re pretty free to make them look however you want. Each of them has a few requirements though, such as using certain items. For example, the school needs to have at least four student desks and a teacher desk. Make sure you’ve fulfilled these requirements before getting creative with the rest of the building.

You’ll need to come up with a name for each facility and assign villagers to work there. Both of these things can be changed later.

All of the facilities will unlock appropriately-themed items that you can then continue to use in the other vacation homes you design. For example, the school will unlock items such as chalkboards and desks, while the restaurant and cafe will unlock many different food items.

After the grand opening of each of these facilities, you’ll start to notice vacationing villagers using them. There may even be animals touring at the cafe and restaurant who you can recruit to build a vacation home for if you want more options than the ones who are sitting on the beach.

Finally, you’ll be able to actually make purchases at some of these facilities. The restaurant and cafe have a daily rotation of food and drinks you can order, and you can buy clothing at the apparel shop.

You can also talk to Lottie between jobs if you want to make any changes to the facilities you’ve already designed.
