New World is a pirate-themed MMORPG developed and published by Amazon Games, and it’s been making waves on the Steam charts ever since its official release a week ago. There are plenty of exciting features such as inter-faction PvP and large scale wars, as well as tons of materials and resources to farm for. Some of the basic mechanics can be a little obtuse, though, so we’re here to help you out. Here’s how to dodge roll and evade in New World.
Dodge Rolling and Evading in New World
The evade function is tied to the L-Shift key in New World. By tapping it, you’ll dodge backwards, or in whatever direction you’re moving in at the time. This is a great way to quickly get yourself out of harm’s way, though you’ll need to watch your yellow stamina bar. Once it depletes all the way, you’ll need to wait for it to fill back up again before you’re able to dodge.
However, you might have also noticed that other players are able to perform a literal roll to evade enemy attacks. If you’re wondering why you don’t have such an ability at your disposal, it’s because of your equip load.
Bring up the character menu with the Tab key and take a look at your equip load on the left side of the screen. It’s determined only by the armor pieces you’re wearing, as well as the shield, if you’re carrying one. You’ll need to bring your equip load below 13g if you want to stay light, and doing so will let you perform a roll whenever you hit L-Shift.
The best way to lower your equip load is by removing the shield if you’re not playing a tank class or using the sword, and by equipping mostly light armor. You can wear a medium chestpiece and keep everything else light to stay under 13g, or wear a light chestpiece and mix a few medium pieces elsewhere.
That’s all you need to know about how to dodge roll and evade in New World. Be sure to check our guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
