Using Boost Attacks

Boost Attacks are solo special moves that teammates perform when you call them to help you out in combat. Boost Attacks also restore the Artes Gauge (AG), so they allow you to continue combos and chain more moves together than you normally would.

Fill the Boost Gauge (BG) by attacking enemies and landing counterattacks after last-second dodges or blocks.

A party member’s icon will glow and light up in the bottom-left corner of the screen when their BG is full, just like Rinwell’s in the image above.

When this happens, press the D-Pad direction that corresponds with the icon of the teammate you want to call on. When you do, they’ll perform their own unique Boost Attack.

Here’s what each Boost Attack does for each character:

Using Boost Strikes

Boost Strikes in Tales of Arise are essentially tag-team combo attacks done with party members. They’re one-hit-kill attacks that present themselves when enemies have low HP or your combo count is high enough.

A blue diamond will begin to fill up on an enemy’s body as you attack them. When it’s full, a “Strike” prompt will appear. Press the D-Pad direction of the teammate you want to perform a Boost Strike with and they’ll finish the enemy off in a flashy cinematic.

The only time when Boost Strikes don’t kill a foe in one hit is against bosses. Bosses will get downed and take serious damage, but they won’t die from a Boost Strike until their health is brought down to zero.
