Do not be overwhelmed.

We have all been there. A game can get too challenging and instead of tearing our hair out, we look to switch the difficulty in order to enjoy the rest of the experience. That is certainly something that can happen in most games, and Housemarque’s Returnal definitely lives up to the first part at times. However, if you want to learn more about how to change the difficulty in Returnal, then you will do well to read on for our guide below.

Can You Change the Difficulty in Returnal?

As much as I would like it to be an option, there is simply no way of changing the difficulty in Returnal. That is right, Housemarque has created an experience akin to Dark Souls and its ilk, with no changing of difficulty to give yourself a break and an easier time to uncovering the secrets of Atropos.

Unless you put in the hard work and learn how the biomes work, how enemies fight, and which weapons and gadgets are best for your play style, Returnal can be a frustrating experience if you keep perishing at the first instance.

However, once you get the hang of it, Returnal becomes a game that is about more than just its challenge and difficulty, and more about mastering its different systems to give yourself a fighting chance. Until then, I wish you all the luck in Returnal, do not let the difficulty turn you off!

That’s all there is to know about how to change the difficulty in Returnal. For more tips, tricks, and info about the game, drop by our guide wiki and have a read.
