MLB The Show 21: How to Steal (RTTS & All Other Modes)

Knowing how to properly steal a base in baseball can be the difference between scoring on a pop fly and not scoring at all. In MLB The Show 21, this practice is just as important, and difficult. Here is everything you need to know about how to steal in MLB The Show 21.

Depending on the mode you’re playing in MLB The Show 21, stealing will be a little bit different. As such, we will break down the differences between how to sneak a base in every portion of the game.

How to Steal in MLB The Show 21

In the majority of the game modes for MLB The Show 21, you’ll be controlling every player on the field. To get someone to steal, select the player by looking at the button prompt that correlates to the base they are currently on.

We reccomend that you don’t tap the steal prompts, though, as it will cause the runners to steal before the pitch is thrown. This often leads to your players getting picked off pretty easily.

If you have multiple people on base at once, you’ll obviously need to select who you want to steal too. Keep in mind that if you have someone steal on first when another player is on second, you’ll also have to have the player on second steal for third, and so on, so that they don’t get ruled out.

Road to the Show (RTTS)

For MLB The Show 21’s single-player experience, called Road to the Show, players are only in control of one player. As such, the stealing controls are a bit different.

The first thing you’ll notice is that the perspective is changed. This changes base running considerably, as you’ll need to look at the top right corner.

In the corner, you’ll see the button you’ve got set for “Advance.” This will vary depending on what base you’re on.

To steal, press and hold the specified button and you’ll be off to the races. Now, simply because you know how to steal, it doesn’t mean you’ll be any good at it.

Getting good at stealing really comes down to timing. With that in mind, you’ll want to time your advance with the pitcher just starting his throwing motion.

Lead Steps & Pick Offs

Pressing L1 on PlayStation or LB on Xbox to take a lead step will give you an advantage, but just be careful, as you can be picked off if you’re too far off the bag. If the pitcher does initiate a pick off, quickly hit the button for retreat, which will send you back to the bag.

Just keep practicing and improving your base stealing stats and you’ll be scoring runs more easily in no time.
