The boat is a pretty nifty feature that you’ll unlock early on in the game. After gaining control of Seth and meeting the rest of your party, you’ll quickly get a tutorial on side quests and be asked to speak with NPCs with a blue speech bubble over their head. The very first side quest in Halcyonia tasks you with helping an old lady retrieve her boat at the beach.

Simply follow the objective marker to the beach outside Halcyonia, and after a short cutscene, she’ll give you access to her old sailboat. From this point on, the old lady can be found at every major town in the game with the boat function available to you.

All you have to do is talk to her, then select the Start Exploring option to send the boat out. What this does is after a certain period of time, your boat will automatically find and bring back treasure for you, which is incredibly helpful especially early on.

Whenever your expedition reaches its end, the boat symbol in town will have the word ‘Max’ on top of it, which means that you should go ahead and talk to the old lady to recall the boat and collect your spoils, Then, send the boat out again and repeat the process.

Time passes even when you’ve quit the game, so you should definitely send the boat out on an expedition whenever you’re about to stop playing for the day. You’ll get items like JP and experience boosts, which can give you a serious leg up early on.

That’s all you need to know about how to use the boat in Bravely Default 2. Be sure to search for Twinfinite for more tips and information on the game.
