Xbox Series X: How to Delete & Remove Account

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Your Xbox account is what records your gaming legacy on Microsoft’s home consoles and PC. Sometimes, though, you may have had a friend or relative pop round and sign into your Xbox. Their account keeps signing in by default and it’s annoying. Or maybe you just made a random side account that you no longer want to appear on your Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S. In this guide, we’ll talk you through how to delete and remove your account on Xbox Series X.

Deleting Your Account on Xbox Series X

To delete your Xbox Live account off your Xbox Series X, simply go to ‘Settings’ from the home screen and select the ‘Accounts’ option here.

In this menu you’ll see the option to ‘Remove.’ Select this, press A, and then follow the steps provided by your console. This largely revolves around you selecting the account you want to remove and entering the required details for security purposes.

Once this is done, you’ll be signed out and sent back to the ‘Sign In’ screen on your Xbox Series X. Either choose another account to sign into, or set up a new account altogether with the on-screen option.

Removing the account from your Xbox does not mean it’s permanently erased from existence. It just means it’s no longer immediately accessible from your console.

You can always add an account you previously removed if you change your mind. Chances are, though, once you’ve got an account set up, you’ll stick with it from then on, especially given you can change your username (Gamertag) should you have made a mistake or just fancy something new.

And that’s all there is to removing your account on the Xbox Series X. For more on both the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, be sure to search for Twinfinite or flick through more of our guides below.
