Can You Switch Servers in Genshin Impact? Answered

Genshin Impact has a number of different servers outside of China, and which one you choose will determine your daily server reset time. It will also limit who you can play with; it isn’t possible to add friends from a different server to your own game.

Unfortunately, once you’ve started a game of Genshin Impact and either chosen or have been assigned a server, you’re stuck with that choice for that particular UID/Account.

On mobile, you actually have a choice as to which server you want to play on, while on PC your server is assigned based on your location, and on PS4 it is determined by what account you have (if you have an EU account, for example, but are playing in America then you will be assigned the EU server).

Annoyingly, once your account has been opened then that’s it, there’s no way to change without starting a new account and, therefore, a completely new game. So, choose your server wisely (if that’s an option for you).

How to Transfer Save Data & Cross-Play in Genshin Impact

It is only possible to transfer save data on mobile devices and PC, which is as simple as creating a miHoYo account before starting your game (as opposed to signing up by username) and using that same account to log in on a different device. Android to iOS to PC works just fine — it is entirely cross-save.

Unfortunately, again, you cannot transfer save data between servers, so you must choose the same server as your account was originally created on.

As for PS4 users, there is currently no way to transfer save data from console to mobile or to PC. When the Nintendo Switch version of Genshin Impact launches, that will also be excluded from save data transfers.

If the situation changes, we’ll let you know. For now, though, that’s everything there is to know about how to transfer save data and whether it’s possible to switch servers in Genshin Impact for cross-progression. For more useful information on the game, check out our wiki page.
