Spelunky 2 brings plenty of new elements to the table, but it still retains some tried and true factors from the original. Case in point: Having a shotgun in your possession ensures most any enemy will pose little threat to you and your success. That’s only if you manage to nab one during your run though, which is why we’re here to walk you through how to get a shotgun in Spelunky 2.
How to Get a Shotgun in Spelunky 2
Getting a shotgun in Spelunky 2 is fairly easy to do, and there are several methods you can use to obtain one. However, you’ll need to be prepared to pay a fitting price for such a powerful weapon.
The easiest way to nab one is to kill a shopkeeper. Each and every one in the game is armed with one of the boom sticks, and will whip it out to deal with anyone who attacks them or their shop. Most all of them are in a prime position to blast you away as soon as you start trouble too, so you’ll need to be fast and precise about dealing with them.
To that end, your best bet is to lob a bomb in their direction. So long as it hits them before detonating, they’ll be stunned for a moment and left to suffer the full blast of the explosive. This should kill them, and you can then retrieve the shotgun from their corpse.
It’s worth noting, though, that this will carry consequences for the rest of your run. Any level with shops will see the shopkeeps become immediately hostile toward you, and they’ll hunt you until you either leave the level or die.
How to Buy or Find a Shotgun as a Drop
If you’d prefer to use a safer method for getting a shotgun in Spelunky 2, then you can instead try to buy one from a weapons shop.
Though only rarely offered and typically running you $15,000 or more, this is the safest method for adding the firearm to your inventory. You won’t have to defeat any enemies to snag it, and you will have to do a minimal amount of relying on RNG for it to appear.
If it doesn’t appear at the shop, then you can instead try to get it as a drop from Gifts or item crates. Though this means you’ll be left relying on chance much more, it’s still a method where you won’t have to fight anyone or anything for the weapon.
Likewise, the monetary investment will be lower, with Gifts offered by shops for as little as $8,000.
